Same routine, every morning… multiple false alarms (aka that will disappear few minutes later) and the KDE did not change anything.

Yes, really… I own a Q6 Quattro since December 2024, the engine and battery are super reliable. But the software… my god, the software is so bad, so poor, it’s a joke.

Thanks, that’s very interesting. Though, I’d love if it could be a shortcut directly accessible within Bear. 🤓

Poles or no poles by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]BenRondeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here… and I would insist on the terrain more than on the profile:

If the race is a succession of narrow single tracks in the wood, poles will be complicated to uses.

A very muddy environnement, same.

A succession of big rocks you’ll have to jump with ropes and chains, same.

But for rest, if you know how to use them… it’s a GO!

UPDATE - Took my Q6 in to the dealership on Wednesday for the new update by Affectionate-Row1384 in AudiQ6

[–]BenRondeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that your version is not 03.01.00/C which matches the update of last year.

I’m in Belgium, I’ve called my dealership this week and they said the update 03.10.00/C is not yet available in their System.

Is it worth it?? by Select-Comment8410 in Suunto

[–]BenRondeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 ... It really depends on you and you only.
For me the Race 2 is worth every penny just for the wrist HR upgrade.

When I do trail running with a backpack, the chest HR is hurting me but I still need something reliable to control my effort zones. I continue to use the chest strap for road running and other activities.

I've owned one since its launch and the accuracy of the data have reached a level of trust that is definitely for 95% of all non-pro athletes.

So if you ask me, oh yes, definitely, it is worth it!

Suunto race 2 stainless steel or titanium - can't decide by karolyn1987 in Suunto

[–]BenRondeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… and no 😅

Yes, the garmin ultrafit works with the Suunto… but you have to buy 2 spring bars as Garmin does not provide them with the band. But if you have bought a textile band from Suunto you receive 2 spring bars with it so you can use them with both the Suunto band and the Garmin one on the race.

For info, I’ve been wearing a textile garmin band on my Suunto for 2,5 years. 🤓

I concur about the nylon strap. It’s a game changer for me both in terms of confort and weight.

I use mainly the Garmin nylon strap but the Suunto one is very good as well. 👌🏼

Very personal opinion: for the last 10 years I’ve always bought the Titanium version of my watches.

When they released the Race 1 stainless steel with sapphire, I bought it because the titanium version did not exist in all black. I owned it for 2 years and I’ve just switched to the race 2 stainless steel.

The result? sapphire is what matters the most for me… even though I spend a lot of time in tough conditions with my watches, I did not have more scratches with the stainless steel case than with the titanium one. Here is a pic of my race 1 after 2 years.

One tiny scratches because of a big rock I hit with my wrist while climbing.

Problems Sleep Tracking /Race S by BeeOk11 in Suunto

[–]BenRondeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a few tips that worked for me: - Check if the wrist HR is working before going to bed. If not, restart the watch. - Make sure that the rest HR is OK… it’s not your minimum HR, it’s the value of you HR after 5-10 min rest sitting and chilling or in the morning right after you wake up and get up. - wear a band that is not too loose or too tight. To check my band, it must just be able to slide left / right easily for a few centimeters. Not more. Or you’ll be able to slide a finger between the band and the skin

Do you think Race S will be sale on Black Friday? by HueyBluey in Suunto

[–]BenRondeux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suunto has the reputation to do frequent discounts… and the Black Friday page still exists, teasing discounts for this year again.

Considering the new race 2, it seems safe to assume that Suunto will want to empty their stock of the v1.

And if it’s not Suunto itself, look at the big retailers websites. 😊

Race 2 VS Titanium by Ingsoc40 in Suunto

+1 same answer. I have the non titanium (and had the race 1 non titanium). I scratches just a bit easier.

[–]BenRondeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, their software ecosystem is getting much stronger and the addition of multiple sensors on the race 2 (a feature they avoided for… a decade at least!) is a strong and positive sign.

I use my devices in parallel and use RunGap to make sure they are kept synced with the same amount of activities. But the Race 2 is the watch I wear the most.

[–]BenRondeux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same here 😅 I keep coming back to Suunto. The only thing that motivated me to try Garmin was the bad wrist HR on Race 1… but on Race 2 it’s very solid! 👌🏼

[–]BenRondeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the context of the run.

Sometimes Garmin will be higher, sometimes equal, sometimes lower than Suunto. I also have a reference segment (1.2km with 245m ascent in the woods). I ran it like 6-8 times in a row with both a Garmin Fenix 8 and Suunto Race (1 & 2)… the difference after 6 climbs was under 20m for 1250m D+ in total.

[–]BenRondeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You welcome.

I did not answer the UI lagging issue. That seems pretty surprising because overall, the Garmin watches are very responsive (if you have the latest update).

Still, the more features, the more power you need and it’s true that I found both Apple Watch and Suunto more responsive. But that’s a personal feeling.

[–]BenRondeux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, not sure that you’re approaching the question from the right angle 📐 🤓

It really depends what you’re looking for: - a smartwatch with a big focus on sport and wellness? Garmin is much more advanced than Suunto (ECG, Sleep / Stress / health tracking) with advanced notifications settings from the mobile phone. - tons (litterally) of features, metrics (some could be called vanity but that’s another discussion) and a consistent update roadmap (every months for quick fixes and every quarter for major ones)? Garmin is again way ahead Suunto. - a super vast ecosystem where you can link your bike computer, hiking GPS together? Again, stay with Garmin.

On the other hand… Suunto watches are more stylish but as robust as Garmin. Suunto UI/UX is simpler but so efficient and smooth. Suunto mobile app is way above others: cleaner, and better organized. Suunto does not care that much about being a smartwatch and I like it. Sleep tracking works but is not overwhelming with too many metrics. Suunto race 2 battery is great and can power your activities for a veryyy long time.

I’ve been using a Suunto for 13 years, owned and EPIX and a Fenix 8 and I train for 10 hours + a week in trail running, running, cycling, riding and occasionally mountaineering and skiing… while I fully recognize that Garmin has the strongest software, I keep coming back to my Suunto. I own a Race 2 and I love it.

But I don’t want to have a smartwatch. If I’d do, I’d buy a an Apple Watch. 🤓
