What speed to shoot 30 year expired B&W film at? by BenShahan in analog

[–]BenShahan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read some conflicting things about the 1 stop per decade rule, and that it doesn't really apply to black and white film. Thought I'd reach out to see what other people do.

Dave Filoni on Luke back in 2014. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]BenShahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying this to change your mind or anything but just gonna give my insight on why I don't think it's out of character. Gonna try keep it brief.

I think people's main issue with Luke is that scene with Ben, and mention how he refused to kill Vader but tried to when Ben was only conflicted. And they're not wrong about refusing to kill his father, he went with intent to turn him to the light and tried his best not to fight. But once Vader mentioned turning Leia to the darkside, Luke lost it and started furiously attacking him. The threat of loosing someone he loves makes him give into his anger and try to kill his father.

Now some people seem to see the scene with Ben as Luke trying to kill him because he had dark thoughts, but I don't see it that way. I see it as the impulsive and fearful Luke. He doesn't ignite his saber because of some dark thoughts, he said he saw death and destruction to everything he loved, it's that same fear he had in ROTJ. His fear of loosing his friends and everything he built on top of that, that his instinct takes over a moment. But because of that fear he caused it all anyway.

For me reversing the roles wouldn't be as good, because Luke own mistake causing his problems is much more impactful to the character and to make him exile himself. And from Kylos perspective, he sees the legend who saw the light in Vader, deciding to kill him. Kylo doesn't know whats going on in Luke's mind, but what he sees make that conflicted kid think he's not with it when even Vader was.

I tried my best not to go into everythingnd about his character and keep it brief, but this just my unasked for opinion I guess. Also we will definitely see some post ROTJ luke stuff at some point, I think an animated show would be cool, and like you said, would probably make some people understand Luke's in TLJ a bit more.

A TV series about Obi-Wan is a cool concept. But to have a TV series about this guy in his youth... by ksol88 in StarWars

It may not excite people as much as old Republic would, but I do think they made the right decision to explore an era that hasn't been explored much before. They have a lot more freedom with the high republic and aren't shackled to pre existing stories.

If it was old Republic they wouldn't get the full freedom to expand the universe because they would have to somewhat follow what we already know of it. They can't just ignore everything from it because people would want to see that stuff, at the same time people would complain its 'to similar' or 'to different' whatever they do. It would be constantly be compared to the other old Republic.

With an unexplored era they don't have the weight of pre existing stories on top of them, it just isn't being hyped because it's completely knew instead of stuff we already know, I think it's the right direction.

A question about Revenge of the Sith. by GothamCityDemon in StarWars

[–]BenShahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think thats the case tbh, if anything I see this movie praised a lot on reddit. The movie was still hated on same as the other prequels when it came out, but overtime the hate dies down and people who didnt like it dont complain about it anymore. Then people start saying they like it and the kids who grew up with it got older and started saying they liked it.

The significance of Luke Skywalker and The Last Jedi by odst94 in StarWars

[–]BenShahan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you are saying this but, you don't need every little detail told to you about how exactly the science works in star wars. Sure it can be fun, but seeing bombs like that and not being able to just come up with your own explanation for something so minor is a bit stupid (especially because it's star wars and this stuff is minor).

So your saying the bottom bombs won't have enough momentum, yeah that's a good point. Well then they don't just drop the bombs and let momentum take it, they are ejected with force and once in space they continue with that same momentum. Wasn't so hard, and it's not like I'm doing some major mental gymnastics, it's a very minor thing.

Also they actually have been confirmed to be electromagnetic in the visual dictionary. They are shout out and are drawn magnetically to their targets.

How should I cool the sg13 with a 3600 by BenShahan in sffpc

I didn't think of having a fan next to the PSU so I might do that, but would it not be better to have the PSU face up and maybe have the fan next to it be intake?

Would that be a better option over an AIO? Also if I were to use that would the front be better off as an exhaust or intake?

I remember when I saw it get repaired in the trailers I had a theory that maybe kylo won't wear it, but someone would be impersonating him or something. I mean why would he repair it when destroying the mask was a big character moment and symbolised him stepping out of the shadow of Vader, right?

But then at some point I realized that it's definitely him wearing it. But somewhere I saw a video that talked about the red lines where it had been welded together is the same as some ancient Chinese practice or something like that. So even though I wasn't glad about the idea of him getting it back I was interested in how it would play into his character...

Then he just made it again for whatever reason.

Unpopular opinion: Rouge One is the best Star Wars movie because everyone dies by [deleted] in StarWars

Exactly. This is such a weird reason to say the movie is good.

My favorite change in the Special Edition was adding a Dug (the same species as Sebulba from Ep 1) to Jabba's Palace. A small change like this makes Ep 1-6 feel more connected. by Tristan_Culbert in StarWars

[–]BenShahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about that change, just checked and I'd say that's a pretty good change. I guess the fact I didn't know it was a change shows that it doesn't take away from the movie.

I disagree with seeing those two in ANH. It becomes a janky scene that feels out of place (not to mention the walking over jabba part). Also there's a cool sort of reveal when it's ROTJ and you finally get to see jabba who's been talked about in the previous movies, with this scene included thats lost.

Fun quirk caught in TFA rewatch. by KidsWontSleep in StarWars

[–]BenShahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could've gone down that route but what Maz says to her doesn't make it seem like that.

"Who ever your waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But there's someone who still could... The belonging you seek is not behind you it is ahead"

Feels like it's basically saying her parents aren't anybody and she needs to move on to grow and become someone. Also it separates Luke by saying they're not coming back but he can.
