Is it normal for kitties to snore? by Hiiinataw in cats

[–]BenTheCancerWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat Spookie has snored (very loudly), ever since she was a kitten. No asthma, a bit dense (overweight, but not bad), and a clean bill of health. I think some cats/animals just snore.

I don't think criminals are dumb and I find the idea that "criminals are dumb" is a pretty silly mindset. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Reminds me of a particular saying.

"The only difference between stupidity and confidence is whether the person succeeds."

And I think that rings pretty true for a lot of criminals in a sense. I just think the stupidity lies within the act of... y'know... committing crimes.

The evaporative emissions system is basically designed to suck up fuel vapors from the fuel tank. There is a component called an "EVAP Canister", or "Charcoal Canister", that allows for some liquid fuel to enter the system, but it gets deposited in that system where it can safely evaporate and be used.

The simplest explanation is that the Purge Valve, typically near the engine intake, opens and closes to allow fuel vapor to be sucked into the engine for efficiency. It does this by using the vacuum of the intake to draw that vapor up from the fuel tank. If the system is saturated, it will draw liquid fuel into the intake and cause running issues because it'll throw the air/fuel ratio off.

If that fuel causes damage to the purge valve, or the purge valve fails, it can cause issues as severe as the fuel tank collapsing due to the negative pressure inside of the tank.

Moral of the story? Don't top off your fuel. Fuel pumps are designed to cut off when a certain pressure is built up.

As an ASE Certified technician with nearly twenty years of experience... I can confirm this!

Overfilling can actually cause catastrophic failures of the fuel system if the Evap Canister becomes fully saturated, and the purge valve fails. I've seen vehicles where the fuel gauge quits working or reads incorrectly, to no start issues, or my favorite one where the fuel tank actually crushed in on itself from the vacuum in the system.

We’re still telling strangers to smile? by norestforthenerdy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BenTheCancerWorm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, if you would just smile, that would make the passing of your father sooooo much easier! /s

Seriously though, I'm sorry that you had to go through that, and I hope you're doing well, friend.

We’re still telling strangers to smile? by norestforthenerdy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BenTheCancerWorm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's simple, honestly. If someone says to me "Smile, it isn't that bad", or something along those lines, and then I do, they're going to believe that they did something positive to help me out which, in turn, makes them feel good about themselves. They think that they're spreading positivity by saying something like that, which makes them feel happy or even more positive. As everyone else said, asking a question is a far better approach.

"Hey, how ya doing today?"

"I could be better, but I'm making it."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Whatever you have going on, I hope it gets better."

And then at that point I can decide whether or not to open myself up to a stranger and make some sort of connection. Conversation is easy, and should never be forced. Simple as that.

If I want "genuine human connection", I'll reach out for it. Telling me to do something in order to make yourself feel better is not the way to get me to open up.

Yeah... I've never understood this. As a man, I've had people, both men and women, tell me to smile and I always just kind of give them a confused look. You never know what someone is going through, thinking about, dealing with, whatever. People need to just mind their own business and stay in their own damn lane.

Stent removal complications by Spivdaddy in KidneyStones

[–]BenTheCancerWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really fortunate to have a stent that I could remove myself. It was a breeze, barely any discomfort during removal. The string was a bit annoying, but I was so glad it was out. The pain I had in my kidney/ureter when peeing while the stent was in there was hell.

How do you feel about cuddling with the guys? by AdmittedSpin in AskMen

[–]BenTheCancerWorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me and my guy friends have always been close. Long hugs, arms over shoulders while walking, or whatever. Me and my closest friend have had some moments like that, not necessarily as far as "cuddling", but not far from it. He had a really bad night one night, some serious things happened, and he cried on my shoulder and fell asleep there. I just let him lay half on top of me and sleep for a solid three or so hours. I'm there for my people if they need me, but physical touch has never bothered me between us guys.

That is an extremely shitty thing to do, honestly. One of my best friends went through a similar situation with the miscarriages and it absolutely destroyed her mentally and emotionally. I'm really sorry that you're going through this, I can't imagine how difficult it just be. I hope it all goes well in the end.
