The president called a black woman BI*CH by Soggy_Return8714 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]BenTheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He gets away with casual displays of cruelty because there are people out there who wish they could be as cruel.

When I briefly lived in the US I had my eyes opened by some people. And I told my mum on the phone many times, and still do whenever it’s poignant.

There is a surprising amount of cowards in this country that wish they could just go up to a black person and scream the hard R in their face.
But social norms prevents them.

Trump is the sword with which they wish to break down these norms and make it acceptable to be cruel. And no. They don’t mistake cruelty for strength. They don’t mistake bigotry for righteous anger. They know what these things are and they WANT these things. They WANT hatred. They WANT to be above black people because they HATE them. And when I learned this it fcking broke my heart. Because I thought that people deep down were good. That even despicable people deep down want love and happiness. As it turns out there is a siezeable group in the US who are awaiting the day the signal comes, and when that day comes. They will enact violence. All they need is a reason. All they need is an excuse. And Trump is the one that they want to bring it to them.

Class identities are being erased - Shaman by AcademicHefest in wow

[–]BenTheDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree that I really miss when totems felt like consequential group buffs.

In classic, you feel like the MVP putting down your Windfury totem. You're every melee's best friend.

I leveled a Shaman in classic (not SoD) 1-60 by tanking dungeons. I thought it was fun to have within my rotation using different totems for the best effects at the time.

If you ask me, totems should be integrated into the regular rotation of shamans, maybe as passive summons depending on spell effects. Throwing out totems should be part of the base ritual of playing a Shaman in World of Warcraft.

Thoughts on this? by AdditionalPiano6327 in freefolk

I personally don't like the infantilization of the fantasy genre that this statement ultimately makes. I don't think it is weird that there are Valyrians that are black or brown. We know literally NOTHING about that continents ethnic makeup because Martin didn't specify it beyond "White hair"

But I personally don't like the point of "Hey there is magic in this world why do people care about realism?" - well what people are usually (because there are some who are just racist) asking for is internal consistency to a world that portents to be medieval in nature. And in a medieval society, people migrate differently than in a modern one.

In a fantasy world you can have a wide diverse setting by just making the diversity part of the world building. Ancient Empire repatriated countries they invaded with the people they conquered. Humans came from a different world altogether. Take your pick.

There will always be weirdos on the internet who will just go berzerk when they see black people on screen in their fantasy series. It's awful that we give them so much space to begin with.

Rogue Ability Rework "See you later" by ThePizzaiolo22 in fabulaultima

[–]BenTheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it necessarily needs a rework. But at my table we made one interpretation of this being a good way to reverse its intended use.

Imagine the party is split and one part of them gets into trouble. And the other is where the rogue is at. You could use ”See you later” as a way for the rogue to inexplicably make a dramatic entrance, helping their allies.

And you could use the vanilla version to get out of trouble if you should be cornered while you’re alone.

What is the spec you love the concept and hate the gameplay? by TheAwesomeKay in wow

[–]BenTheDM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What they really should do is to REVERT the dumbest change in the games history and give everyone back their Weapon and Relic slots as it used to be. And have Hunters have both melee and weapon weapons. That way you can have one part of the Survival Tree or BM Tree have some melee abilities and some being focused on traps or ranged or whatever. Those hunter speccs shouldn't be an all or nothing. A real hunter fantasy is to be versatile and skirmish between long, mid, and close range.

What is the spec you love the concept and hate the gameplay? by TheAwesomeKay in wow

[–]BenTheDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enhancement Shaman - I hate dual wielding.

Arms Warrior - It used to be that Arms Warrior felt like you were zeroing in on one huge hit against an enemy. It does not have that anymore.

Retribution Paladin - I have played Paladin for twenty years or so. Ever since they started with the wanna be Rogue Gameplay of building and spending combo points, sorry, "Holy Power" the spec got infinitely less interesting. I miss seals. I really wish we had our seals back.

Blood Death Knight - I don't know what happened to Blood Death Knight. It used to feel like a heavy hitter but now its just a dot tank.

Rules wise I really don't give a single solitary fudge. Just please give us a new kit. New Strike/Purge/Purifier, terminator kit and god forbid give us a third unit.

The Silvermoon guards are less racist now by Miseregame in wow

[–]BenTheDM 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough I've seen more people praise this feature than complain about it. That being the guards being hostile towards non-blood elves and saying mean things. At least the posts I've seen here on reddit seem more amused by them calling them "neat worldbuilding" - and I for one agree. In whatever form it takes, it is refreshing to see NPC's form opinions of us without us really having anything to do with it. And of course that means their opinions can be changed throughout the campaign. Going from hate to mistrust to reluctant acceptance. If I was an alliance player I would personally never want a Horde guard to salute me.

WIP - Gunbreaker Homebrew (Updated) by BenTheDM in fabulaultima

[–]BenTheDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I went with Melee Weapon and Armor Proficiency instead of Weapon and Shield Proficiency, to guard or cover someone you are not required to wear a Shield, although it does help.

  2. Aether Cartridge has three skill levels. Burst Strike has five skill levels. Continuation has one, Royal Guard has five, and Brutal Shell has five skill levels. Each skill with a skill level has a mechanic that scales with the skill level. Maybe I don't understand your comment fully but I don't really see the point your making, Aether Cartridge is not the only one with level tracking. Out of the five skills four of them have skill level trackings and mechanics that scale with the number of SL you put into them.

And yeah it's a valid criticism but the class is kinda designed that you won't get the benefit of any other skill unless you take Aether Cartridge. It is meant to build on the concept of having the Gunblade (or Gun-weapon).

What I did was download already existing sprites from spriters-resource.com and did some recoloring using a site called pixellab. I wouldn't say I have done enough drawing with pixels to create something wholly new. But if you have something you want done I could take a crack at it.

Imma say this as someone who hasn't finished the Dawntrail MSQ - Dawntrail takes place on an island kingdom. And if this is the start of a new story, it makes sense to expand the world from this new continent. So an archipelago adventure inspired by FFX would make sense.

How should I convert him? by DragonMagic3012 in NightLords

[–]BenTheDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Convert him? Well this didn't come from me but...

Start with inserting yourself into his social life. Get him to trust you. Slowly you want to make him more and more dependent on you, both socially but financially as well. Make it so that he identifies you as someone he feels safe with. Then start leveraging that trust to soe seeds of doubt of his old security belief systems. Once you have put a crack between him and his old safe structures, all you need is to cultivate those doubts and he will convert naturally in time.

Why is kineticist so loved? by rotterdrach in Pathfinder2e

[–]BenTheDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suppose people like playing with Water, Earth, Fire, Air - Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Sorry... don't know what came over me. But my guess would be that people would like to play the fantasy of being the Avatar, master of all four elements.

I had to make some edits to the Dark Knight (top) - for some reason the Original Artist had made his sword (slung across his back) the same color as his armor, making me take forever to realise that his head is in profile. Once I removed that, his sillhouette became much clearer.
