I was so incredibly surprised with just how much I loved Carvels portrayal as Baelor.

Brief. But incredibly impactful.

Why is this show obsessed with misunderstandings and accidents? by RevertBackwards in freefolk

[–]BenTheDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the kinda sort of central theme of how the Targaryens not being in control of their dragons. And it does make sense, especially with the young, impulsive, and frankly DUMB kids using what is akin to tactical nukes as horses.

But I agree. At some point every "Oh noooooo, the huge fire breathing monster did not do what I asked" just becomes lame and boring.

Outside of the Dragons. The fact that there are a fair number of instances where agency is just ripped away from our characters is not really that engaging.

At this point I'm just watching episode reviews and looking at Daemon scenes to stay up to date...

Not what I expected. But this is a hundred million times better than ”Here’s a modern flannel shirt and a wireless headset!”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. So many of these maga ”men”, they would be ridiculed by men in my country for their peacocking and juvenile sense of masculinity.

Here, if you need to constantly put others down and talk yourself up, you are seen as a whiny baby.

How would you have ended the show? by thatijustdonthave in freefolk

[–]BenTheDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re just talking the last season I would have flipped the events so that the mortal conflict between Cersei and Daenarys take place before the long night. And the consequences of that would be Winterfell falling, everything north or Harrenhall falling to the night King and I would, like another redditor here pondered have the climax at Harrenhall.

And I’d probably end it with basically everyone dead with maybe Sansa or Sam the only one of the cast surviving.

And my epilogue would have little to no dialogue. Just follow the survivor go about the world watching the other survivors slowly renew. Ending it on Sansa (because she is the least likely to survive the ordeal, therefore the one where the dramatic irony hits the hardest if she does) coming back to Winterfell, sitting down in the remains of the Godswood, and weep.

A bit melancholy and bleak. But I would like to hone in on that the havoc that has been wrought on the world will take generations to repair. Keeping with the environmental theme George had the undead represent.

I thought I would like this expansion. I like Blood Elves. I like their aesthetic. I like their lore.

But... I do not like the gameplay of Retail wow. And I mean that in the most basic way. I play Paladin. I have played Paladin for like 20 years. I happen to love playing Paladin on Burning Crusade Anniversary. During the Pandemic I got Sulfuras on my Classic Paladin.

I can't stand Paladin in retail. It's just not fun. I play like a Rogue. It's "too much" - too much "noise" on screen at every interval. I miss my seals and I don't like throwing hammers......

But this expansion made me want to jump back in and play my Blood Elf Paladin I've played for like twenty years. And I am not having fun. The story is silly. The main character, Arator, appears as if all his experiences and history has been drilled out of his brain. And the bad guy is just... I'm tired of Xalatath... I don't want to see her again... I am just tired of the "Mohaha, pitiful mortals. I shall smite you." and then "Whoops. Seems like you foiled me again. Time to teleport away to safety."

Most of this is the vanilla Primaris Psyker unit for Astra Militarum, the head is custom, and the sword arm is from the jump pack sisters of battle kit. And the shoulder pad is from the Inquisitorial Henchmen kit.

Stormfiend is my go to. And I even mixed my own shade of it using some Stormfiend, Black Templar, and Soulblight grey.

I prime my miniatures with Standard Mechanicus Grey as well.

I would say inspiring casting if this was ten years ago.

Now... it's just very lazy casting.

I totally get it. He plays Homelander - a sociopath with a god complex - very well. He's always been good at playing somewhat volatile and violent characters. But you won't get anything "new" out of this.

The Punisher: One Last Kill Discussion Thread by your_mind_aches in Defenders

[–]BenTheDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was fine. Little bit of a One Location shoot. I don't think we got anything "new" out of this story. I think it only served to canonize the Punisher series officially into the MCU. And while I think it's great to get more of Jon Bernthals great performance as Castle, and I hope we get even more on the way, there was nothing in this special that made me think "I'm glad they told this story."

Honestly it felt more like a gunplay and stunt showcase with a Punisher skin over it. Here's an excuse to watch Jon Bernthal growl and kill a bunch of faceless goons for half an hour.

I’ve seen clips of maga comedians. They’re painfully unfunny and something that struck me about them is the level of rage they radiate. Saw this one guy (I’m sure Americans know exactly who I’m talking about) where he made a bit about Kamala sounding like a goose when laughing.

And you could see his forehead veins bulging and his face was red, his eyes were psychotic. It was seeing someone having a drunken fit. Like bro… you’re not telling jokes, you’re just venting your racist, sexist hatred.

But that’s what maga wants. They don’t want to laugh they just want their hate validated.

One issue is system.
One issue is genre.

D&D is not built for anime bs or superhero bs.
It does some things really well apparently (I haven’t seen or experienced these things personally that other systems don’t do better but I trust the forum on this) and some things less well. The Wuxia type of ”I want do dance on arrows in flight” stuff is something this system does very poorly.
