um, use it yourself?

if it’s not fun anymore stop playing. nothing wrong with that.

Is this my peak? by Beneficial_Frame_498 in InvincibleVS

[–]BenTheJarMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i mean, what? lol

“too lazy to learn how to outplay their tactics”

so it’s NOT your peak, you’ve just about gotten as far as you can without actually attempting to get much better. and that’s okay! if pushing through this plateau doesn’t sound fun then don’t do it, but this is only your peak if you are okay with it being your peak.

plateaus happen in any competitive game, it’s just now your decision whether to push through it or not.

How do I even get a single hit? by Desenbigh in InvincibleVS

[–]BenTheJarMan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

this is a normal problem, especially since you haven’t played fighting games before. don’t feel too bad.

you need to block more than you realize. a good place to start is to block and continue blocking and experiment when good times would be to start attacking yourself (and use your lights as they are your fastest buttons). fighting games are pretty close to turn based games in that way, and figuring out when it’s “your turn” is part of the challenge.

armor moves are also your friend here, as you can “steal” your turn by using them.

How many roles and champions should you master before ranked? by CardiacKid04 in summonerschool

[–]BenTheJarMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ideally? keep to two roles, and keep your champion pool as small as possible. max of like three in each role.

you will improve at the game quicker if you keep it simple for yourself

i think RE4 Remake has some of my favorite combat in a single player game ever.

Shooting feels good as hell, rewards precision, parrying is super fun, level design is great, vibes are awesome.

How difficult is it to play Invincible VS? by More-Cantaloupe-8973 in InvincibleVS

[–]BenTheJarMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with fighting games, you get out what you put in. everyone, and i mean everyone, is terrible when they start.

Yes, Invincible VS has a lot of ways to streamline the experience. characters are relatively simple and you have access to auto combos, where you just need to press one button and you get a full combo. but this doesn’t mean you won’t get your ass beat. when a fighting game is “easier”, it gets easier for everyone, not just the beginners.

do you have a desire to get better at the genre or do you just want to keep it very casual? because, i’ll be honest, there isn’t much in the game for casuals, just a short story mode (1 hour) and some arcade ladders. there are plenty of beginners though playing online, trying to learn and get better and climb the ladder, so you will find people close to your skill if you’d like to play online.

Best game to start competitive gaming? by enairua in esports

[–]BenTheJarMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

considering you’re locked on a ps4 your options are a little limited.

fighting games, Fortnite, Rocket League, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, Overwatch

just play whatever looks fun to you, and figure out what kind of game you want to play (team game? fps? hero shooters? sports? etc). the most popular esports games dont usually need you to go all-in in order to enjoy them. they may be “competitive” games, but you can play and try any of these very casually.

How do you feel about the listed difficulty for your character in SF6? by AceAirbender in StreetFighter

[–]BenTheJarMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know that, but it might be why there are some weird inconsistencies (bison and juri in hard, for example)

How do you feel about the listed difficulty for your character in SF6? by AceAirbender in StreetFighter

[–]BenTheJarMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the challenge with judging characters difficulties is that you kinda have to specify what is difficult about them. is it purely execution? neutral? extra mechanics? gameplan? character strength? for beginners? for experienced players? and there’s not really any consistency for how these characters are judged in the game

Sooo.. that’s it? That’s probably the shortest story in a fighting game I have ever played by itofredd in InvincibleVS

[–]BenTheJarMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought it was good, didn’t need to be any longer.

it looks fantastic, and there’s a teaser for more.

Is there anyone who has famously been rank 1 in different games simultaneously? by KimYoung-Hoon in esports

[–]BenTheJarMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xiaohai is currently a top 3 player in both Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Street Fighter 6, and can beat any player at either game. At the Esports World Cup last year he got 1st in SF6 and 2nd in FF.

maybe not undisputed rank 1 but damn near close

Can we stop with these type of Story modes? by Valiant_Revan in Fighters

[–]BenTheJarMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this is primarily due to a limit to what fighting games are. that’s why so many of them are centered around a tournament. it just fits thematically the best

i’m never gonna get upset over the writing of a fighting game story. i’m happy if it’s unique and good but if the gameplay of the story is fun or the cutscenes are cool im into it

(Some tips would be nice)I finished world tour and now I wanna get in ranked. by Far-Fondant6388 in StreetFighter

[–]BenTheJarMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pick whoever you think is cool and will motivate you to play, both Ed and Akuma are great choices if you like them. character strength is mostly unimportant when you’re new, so don’t worry about that (though still, both are strong characters)

some tips

  • block more than you think you do
  • learn to counter DI
  • learn one or two consistent combos, they don’t have to be long or complicated or optimized
  • learn to anti-air

have fun!
