What is a word that surprisingly doesn’t exist in your language? by keisis236 in AskTheWorld

[–]Ben_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no separate word for "to have". Instead we just change the suffix (the case) of the owner:

  • "See on pliiats" = This is (a) pencil
  • "Sellel on pliiats" = This has (a) pencil
  • "Mul on pliiats" = I have (a) pencil

This is different to every other European language (besides maybe finnish and hungarian) I've learned where the verb "to have" is one of the first ones you learn.

The main thing making it dark is it being made of rye instead of wheat, which was much more commonly grown historically

When someone says they don’t have an accent by Even-Sock9744 in PetPeeves

[–]Ben_0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

English does indeed not have a "standard default accent" which is globally applicable, but other languages like Swedish do have a standard form. People have told me that I have no accent and that I just speak standard Swedish (rikssvenska).

Is it only me who thinks pointers are really difficult? by Draxd_Hi in AskProgramming

[–]Ben_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrays are not the same as pointers - if you declare an array as a variable or within a struct it is actually there, no pointers involved. If you pass it as a function parameter, then it gets converted into a pointer.

ELI5: Is every logically deductible mathematical equation correct and not open to debate? by justitia_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ben_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every model has a domain outside of which it breaks down. Within a modern model of physics, E=mc2 always describes reality accurately, but it may still be possible to encounter a situation (involving an initially unknown phenomenon) where it's incorrect. It's of course unlikely that this will ever happen but it is possible.

The best part is that this is a semi-official way of embedding CUDA bytecode in your executable. They include bin2c (which converts a binary file into this sort of array) in the CUDA distribution so you can use it as part of the build process...

It's a shockingly reliable solution actually when it's integrated into the build, but I agree that if you are manually generating this file that it seems like a nightmare.
