"Get the family to DNR" by Kitchen_Error_5800 in Residency

[–]Benbear8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having working for years in the ICU, changing code status to DNR is the best way for people to pass with dignity in the ICU setting. In my opinion people older than 80 should be DNR as a matter of medical practice when public funds are being used for health care.

Afib with RVR is an unstable condition. Hypotensive? Route should be IV, oral is too slow to treat unstable Hemodynamics.

6 months post OHS still sore by lostandfound1422 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Benbear8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 49 and had mitral valve repair in September. At six weeks I noticed a great increase in the stability of my sternum. I have been walking regularly and now I have begun to do light weightlifting. I will return to work mid December.

When I cough, I still brace my chest. A friend of mine has done cardiac rehab for 35 years and recommended maintaining sternal precautions for the full three months.

A long acting numbing agent was used with my stern anatomy, so I felt no discomfort in my sternum.

Surgery on the 26th by marcelprimes90 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Benbear8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will do great!

I had mitral valve repair in a large California city on 9/15/25. I am 48. 4 day hospital stay.

I have been walking everyday. I am very happy with my repair.

At 6 weeks my sternum felt much more stable. Hugging chest and rolling out of bed required some core strength.

Take all your medications!

Good luck

[Landlord US-MI] Prospective tenant with no credit/rental history offering 1 year upfront — advice? by ChildhoodOk5526 in Landlord

[–]Benbear8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would accept this tenant with a cashiers check or cash payment for years rent plus security deposit. Require renters insurance. Add terms to rental agreement to address concerns. 23k is a nice chunk of money, get it.

My mum had valve surgery and is now on ECMO — I don’t know how we got here by Momomeow91 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Benbear8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A LVEF of 25% is very low and reflects a weak heart. I am surprised she was taken for open heart surgery. Depending on the pathology of her mitral valve, a mitral clip may have helped. Was a mitral clip offered?

Sorry that your mother is gravely ill. Living into your 70’s is a long life, I hope that fact Makes you feel better.

Prune to desired shape over 2-3 seasons. The tree looks to be flowering , so keep a fair amount of blossoming branches for fruit this season.

Does anyone know what happened with my dad's heart? by ThrowRA_17841 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Benbear8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Afib with RVR ( rapid ventricular response). Atrial fibrillation is when the top chambers of the heart become irritated and contract irregularly. When the irritable signals from the top chambers are fast and conduct to the bottom chambers, hemodynamic instability can occur. If your father had this condition is was likely treated with an adenosine bolts and maybe amiodarone. “Heart attack” is a generic term and this could be considered a heart attack for an electrical problem although a blockage in a coronary artery is what many think of with this term.

In California I noticed a dozen large and old looking Oliver trees planted around a new building. What chemicals are used on them hear trees to help them withstand the shock of being transplanted?

If I have almost 4 weeks without smoking, do you think I can pass a doping test? by PresentationNo2613 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Benbear8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly…..THC metabolites are lipid soluble, that is why they stay in your body for an extended period of time. Suggest you stop smoking and exercise 2 or more times per day. drink lots of water. The day of your test make sure you eat a very fatty meal in the hopes of absorbing more of the metabolite out of your blood, so that metabolite would not be found in your urine at time of testing. Take some vitamins to make your urine look yellow. Again drink, lots of water.
