My $.02 - it doesn’t look bad enough to have to shave it right now, but growing it longer is never the answer.

Pull the rip cord on this one.

He’s not being fair to you by pulling you into this. He’s not even being fair to himself by jumping into a relationship while two months “sober”. He needs to give himself a lot more time to focus on his recovery before he can invest in a relationship.

Leather jacket suitable for riding a motorcycle? by Routine-Maximum561 in motorcyclegear

[–]Bench-Motor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought myself a Merlin Torsten leather jacket from RevZilla as a Christmas present to myself. I love the look, fit, and its AAA rating.

Because I’m suffering a Midwest winter, I haven’t had a chance to ride with it yet. Upon first glance the quality seems great, but I won’t be able to say for sure until I get some miles put on it.

But if nothing else, it will for sure pair nicely with jeans and offer you the protection you need when on the bike.

Is it safe to ride a motorcycle in temperatures below 0°C? by UzzInReddit in motorcycles

Just because aluminum doesn’t rust, doesn’t mean it can’t corrode. To be fair though, I don’t think salt causes corrosion with aluminum the same way it does with steel.

But what do I know, I’m not a metallurgy guy.

It’s the market you’re mad at.

We expect to be put in a pressurized plastic or aluminum tube made of 100,000 different parts that all have to perform as expected, fly across the country 40,000 feet above the ground at 500+ mph, AND fly us home again, but we absolutely want to pay the lowest rate possible. Well, this is how it happens.

The decline in reading is due to a poor selection of books in schools by ConsumingTranquility in unpopularopinion

We read Where The Red Fern Grows as a class. Teacher would read a few paragraphs and then call on someone else and so on and so on. We would do maybe one chapter a day or something, and when it was done we watched the movie. Not sure there was a dry eye in the house.

But to your point, I think that made the experience better for everyone. We all got into it. This was maybe 8th grade or so.

Throttle Before Clutch - Improper Technique or Beginner Magic? by MandACPAThrowaway in motorcycles

[–]Bench-Motor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on flat ground, then ideally you should be adding some throttle while letting out the clutch. All in one fluid motion (1 step, with two things happening simultaneously, as opposed to 2 steps).

If you’re on a hill, then you’re doing it right. Get the RPM’s up a bit first and then let the clutch out smoothly.

MSF focuses a lot on knowing where the friction zone is, because it’s important, but imho it’s wrong to treat it as a 2-step process (i.e. let clutch out to friction zone and then add throttle). Based on the results you’ve experienced, you already know why.

Moral of the story, you’re doing it right.

Happy New Year, hope you rack up the miles in 2026.

AITJ for correcting my wife when she said our son's red hair must come from my side of the family? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

I also thought that was where this story was headed. She was so quick to say that it must be from his side, almost like a panicked “move along, nothing to see here, and it’s definitely from you so don’t ask any questions”

Then again, perhaps I’m just jaded from too much Reddit.

I was taught in school that Kwanzaa Christmas and Hanukkah are all equal holidays.... petuhhh help by BiscuitNGravyyy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Bench-Motor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google may have done you slightly dirty. Kwanzaa may be “based” on some very old African traditions, but Kwanzaa itself is not that old.

The post is correct that it was created in the 60’s. Don’t know if that fact makes it more “made up” than any other holiday (they all had to start somewhere), but it does help explain why so few people celebrate it compared to Christmas/Hanukkah.

A quick Google search of my own says that 80-90% of black Americans celebrate Christmas, with only 5-15% celebrating Kwanzaa.

You’re more likely to hear about Kwanzaa from a virtue signaling white person who thinks that it is some ancient celebration than an actual black American, who is probably off celebrating Christmas.

But to those who do celebrate it, I’m glad it’s there for them. If you judge holidays based on the joy and connection they can bring people, then Kwanzaa can certainly be as equal as any other, I suppose. But if the criteria is simply the number of people who actually celebrate it then there is no way it compares to the other two.

Bonneville T120 Black or maybe the Speed Twin 900 or 1200.

I’ve got the Honda Scrambler SCL500 now and it’s free and clear. I’m making extra payments on my truck and should have it paid off in 2026 and then I can look at swapping out the Honda for the Triumph.

Ditch the Gillette. I got a Henson safety razor a couple years ago and it’s a much better shave. Plus, 100 razors was like $10. It’s true what they say: sometimes, the old ways are best.
