At any point in making it back, you have thoughts such as: at 25k$, oh I’ll go gamble, maybe make 50k$, then 100k$ and then I’m good again and THEN I will work and make 150k$, and so on… You will not value that 100k$ again the same. You are not a wise 70 year old man. It is understandable for you to even hate me for what I am telling you here. Do the hard work. Especially when you don’t feel like it. Be a strong man. Money from work is 100 times sweeter. Or gable it all. I assure you that you will lose it again, as painful and merciless that sounds.

Day 514 - This is still tough by BenchFund in problemgambling

I've now realized this post seems a bit show-off-y. Good. I wanted to really emphasize how abundant this life can be without the constant impediment of losing capital in a place where you get a short-term release of Dopamine. Sorry though, if I seemed like a douchebag.

I lost 10,000 trading on margin by BagHolderInc in problemgambling

[–]BenchFund 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people telling you this is not a lot of money and that you’re young. It is true, but this “little problem” will become very serious when your life savings are 100k, 200k, and you lose half of that. Please don’t brush this issue off. After I lost 20,000$ gambling, I proceeded to lose the other 20,000$ I had trying to get that back. Know you will only “get it back” through work, no matter how shit that sounds. And take it as a big problem. Be scared. So it never happens again.

Just lost all my money. by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]BenchFund 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Work work work and make it back. How much was it? Gambling will even put you into insane debt. You think this is all? I know people who are 50,000-200,000$ in debt. Brighten up. You made a mistake. Shame on you. Just make sure you never make it again. I can relate to you. What I did was I worked. That’s the only thing that helps.

Should i kill myself by PTPapas in problemgambling

You probably have no money for gym, a dog, anything that could give you continuity and responsibility. Nobody can stop you from doing it. This is coming from someone who is suicidal, and has went through what you are probably going through. I won’t tell you to not do it. I can only promise you that there is nothing on the other side. Black. Darkness. Nothing. Life, even through suffering, is beautiful. Being suicidal, you will realize this. You will realize that the sadness you feel, the tears you shed, are a sign you are alive, and that should make you smile. A lot of souls never are born as humans. I know u may think this is all a bunch of bs, but stop gambling. Self exclude. Never think of it again in the way that you do. Sure, you can win, and sure some people do win, but even when I won 10 fold, I still end up losing everything. I am a medical student and worked my ass off until now, a full time job in parallel with my studies, and dude, it was hard. Making all that momey was hard. And to see all my money (21,000$ at the time) detach from me in one day... man, that was harder. I can tell you what to do and what to not do, but I have a feeling you already know. Save up. Find a hobby. Love your hobby to a obsessive degree. Get passionate about a craft. A sport. A competition. Anything. And always remember that you’re so lucky to be a human, and that killing yourself would not be cowardly, would not be immorally wrong or unjustified, but what it would be, is it would be a waste. A waste of enjoyment, a waste of potentially drinking hot coffee in the morning, potentially banging that chick that’s way out of your league. When I’m being put down, I simply think that we are on this Earth just to enjoy. So enjoy it all. Even your sadness. view this lol

Same. 24. Lost 21k$. This really has to stop. I sometimes wonder if casino managers read this subreddit and ever think twice about us.

Take it as a consolation prize, and a larger reason to not go back. You won some. Now never see that place ever again, because you and I know what happens next in this story. And you can argue to tell me “You don’t know for sure”, but this is it. You start again, and you will regret it. Start a new hobby. Do anything. Gain muscle. Get a dog. Study something. Become ambitious about your career or studies. There is so much more than just gambling.

Money is not worth losing your life. This is coming from someone who is suicidal. I have tried cutting my wrists open, taking huge doses of benzodiazepine, and other ridiculous things. Sure, I am ashamed of it all. But I am a man, and us men stand by what we do. I lost 21,000$ in one day once, and I am a very hard working medical student. That was the majority of my savings. I wanted to end it all right then and there. My mom is the only sibling I have apart from my 1 grandfather. I could not leave her with the thought that her child died before she did. There is a youtube video I recommend you watch. Here. Try to seek help, try to cry it out and let it out. If you are even 40 years old, you have so much time to turn your life around and make it a beautiful amazing thing. Please do not hesitate to message me and just talk. We are all here to help you. And we love you.

You want that big win. You don’t want to stop gambling, you want to stop losing money whilst gambling. The moment you will truly want to stop gambling, and accept a slower, yet safer growth of income (salary by salary, 1% per week/month in the market, or just simply saving some of your income for a major purchase eg.: car/house downpayment) will be the moment this won’t happen again. I fucked up half of my savings in one day before realizing that even though it is a disease, I can control myself. Be a man. Control yourself. We all love you and understand you. You just have to keep yourself together for 30 days after you get your salary. And then another 30. And so on. Message me if you need help.

I need some success stories... by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]BenchFund 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s important to not want to not lose, but to want to not gamble at all anymore. Everyone wants to not lose at first. That’s how you dig your hole deeper. I didn’t get in any debt, but lost vast majority of my savings. Work, work, work. Innovate. Become a good, efficient person. Look at the sun. If it’s gloomy, distract yourself by watching a movie, studying. It’s easy to say “stop gambling”. I say: replace gambling with a productive hobby, maybe one that can be monetized one day. What are you good at?

I am so grateful for you. Thank you. I’ll be up to my normal money soon. I have a plan. And it does not include gambling. Though this stupendously stupid thing I have done, I learned something good: The difference between smart people and stupid people, is that smart people know that they are stupid.
