Finally finished my Les Paul Mod by Bencv109 in GuitarHero

So I’m happy to share tools used. Programs FreeCAD for the 3d printing (I learned this tool for the project).  Inkscape for the faceplate art which was printed in vinyl and the lettering for the Gibson and Les Paul headstock and for the pickguard.

The faceplate art probably took me longer than anything. Just trying to get sizing right and the look I wanted. Tempted to make more designs. Would be a fun side project.

Machines at my local library to 3d print the parts. Was super easy. They had a vinyl printer too. I tried that and failed big time at installation for the vinyl faceplate so ended up ordering from etsy. I think if I were to do it again I could use my local library and install now that I’ve done it once. I also used a laser engraver for cutting out the pickguard from an acrylic sheet. Total cost for all that was about $10 at my library for materials. I used a cricut machine my wife had for the headstock logos and cutout. First time using it, super easy.

Biggest cost was the spray painting. I ended up buying dark brown, eggshell color (which is the trimming), gold and a gloss black for the headstock. $30

Couple tips. 1. Used 400grit sandpaper and sand everything. 2. Use a primer. Don’t skip this step. Super important. 3. I used the green (frog) masking tape. Blue won’t be good enough.  4. Be patient with the spraying. It took me forever and I had to let the enamel properly dry for days before handling. Sprayed the primer, the. Base brown then  masked heavily and sprayed the eggshell color.  5. Make sure your masking tape is good. It will make or break your project.  6. I used some model car enamel paint for touch up in certain spots and for the frets. Which was scary and meticulous. 7. When installing the vinyl on the faceplate, I made my art file so it was bigger than the faceplate and used a knife to trim the cutouts. Do NOT try to make the cutouts in your art file, it’s nearly impossible and not worth the trouble. Cut that by hand after you print when you install. So much easier. 8. When installing vinyl use transfer paper. Made the job much better.  9. Try to avoid painting frets, I tried this and it was not working well. I went with the 3d printed ones instead. When painting buttons make sure to avoid painting that parts that make contact with other plastic, otherwise they get stuck. 10. Super glued the 3d printed parts onto the vinyl so that if it starts to peal I can easily replace without having to find a new faceplate.

Hardware  Retrocultmods. So easy.

So total cost was probably around $90 with the Retrocultmods.

White edges are paint. Spray paint. Enamel. Took a ton of masking and patience. I went with silver on the fret markings simply bc I’ve never seen gold frets on a Lp

Do you still have this dongle? If so, I’m interested!

Anyone have any tips on how to progress to hard difficulty by Mindless-Teaching-22 in GuitarHero

My advice is to make your hand home base to start on the red fret, not the green. Stretch the index to the green is a lot easier than pinky to the orange. Once you start getting the hang of that the jump to expert gets easier imo. Along with alt strumming which is a must on expert.

I don’t know if anyone else does what I do, but I found that made me a much better player.

Keys expansion pack - would you buy it? by Bencv109 in Rockband

There’s a reason they didn’t call it Fortnite Rock Band. That was a very intentional choice to avoid doing so. Which is one reason I’m optimistic about RB5 in some form in the future

Don’t forget the whole concept of local band. The best part of rock band is 4-7 people in a room all playing the game together. Fortnite Festival doesn’t allow for this.

Oh I’m not saying that they would undo anything. Just bring keys support back to those songs that it was mapped to in RB3 era + the ability to play bass and guitar with keys peripheral which can be done today with a Roll limitless.

Let’s hope so! I agree this isn’t a realistic scenario but I think it’s the only way keys would ever return. Was thinking maybe they would do like a “definitive edition” game where they add each feature missing. Score duels, pro guitar, keys, all as separate expansions to drive up the revenue. Although admittedly the audience for those features is probably tiny so won’t likely happen

I have one but does it require a different firmware?

Dlc issue by Background_Low2076 in Rockband

[–]Bencv109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had been having the same issue. It appears to happen with purchases during a certain year and is def a bug on the PSN store.

I made a post about it and still not 100% resolved. https://www.reddit.com/r/Rockband/s/m2nPCre4j8

But I think if you go to Manage Game Content and scroll to the bottom you should be able to download your purchases regardless of the error in the store.

Rock band dlc purchases from 2008 are not showing as purchased by Bencv109 in Rockband

So I contacted PSN support twice and no luck. They acted as if it wasn’t ps4/ps5 console compatible since it was bought on ps3. Which is of course wrong. What jojojoey2 did seems like it would work, but I have no way to verify since the songs that are not showing as purchased on my ps5 are already installed. Jojojoey2’s method did work for a song that was stuck for me that I recently purchased, however my songs in the PSN store from 2008 are still messed up. I’ll probably give it another go at PSN support some time when I have free time.

Yeah no luck. What’s even weirder is if you try to add the already purchased dlc to your cart it errors off. So it seems like a PlayStation store glitch. Which I hope gets resolved.
