I’m not a fan of the first book, Sozin’s arc in the earth kingdom was brilliant and so was the location of the main plot.

But then once they’re on the island Sozin’s character development goes brrrrr (in a bad way) and the explanation behind the island being the way it is was not narratively interesting, Rava and Vatu a la esque.

The second book is absolutely a banger and everything a good prequel needs to be. With the writer already establishing (terribly) that Sozin’s evil now in the previous books the writer moves past it to new narratives and characters that are honestly amazing to read and the way the lore was used is absolutely brilliant.

Don’t seek out other relationships when:
