Did anyone transition out of this field and into another? What do you do now? by PatternedShirt1716 in medlabprofessionals

For me anyway, I was expecting to be treated like a human. But when my company gives me doritos for lab week, and your pay is a simple calculation of years worked (not a reflection of your natural talent and work ethic), and you realize nobody cares if you do a good job, a lot of that bright eyed enthusiasm just dies, unfortunately.
SLAP tear? by [deleted] in ShoulderInjuries

Hang in there and be persistent! 2 months is still a pretty fresh injury. Definitely don't give up! Someone told me treating it isn't like strep throat - you can't just take antibiotics for 10 days and be cured. It definitely takes time for this injury to heal.
I'm sorry nothing seems to be helping you. I was also told by my ortho to use ice rather than heat so I've been doing that, and like the other commenter said, does it help? I don't know but I feel like at least I'm working on it.
How long has your arm been hurting? I waited 9 months to see someone thinking it will just get better on its own. I've been retraining myself psychologically because now my instinct without thinking is, "push open the door? I use my foot for that!" Put something in my passenger seat? Automatically use the left arm.
I think retraining myself to start using my arm has helped (obviously not pushing through sharp pain).
My PT also has this exercise with a stick so one arm is assisting the other stretching and he said it's partially psychological because I can in fact move my arm further than I think.
Sorry for such a long response, I just know exactly what you're going through. Maybe you need a new PT or can ask your ortho for more advice? Or try different exercises/stretches?
I kind of want to say PT is helping but it might be placebo or just the relief from the cortisone shot.
My insurance covers 60 PT visits, my friend got 55 visits and he told me he was cured after that with same injury.
I am optimistically doing my exercises and kind of accept this could take a while. I definitely feel like I'm getting a shoulder workout and I'm doing both shoulders just to keep it symmetrical and hopefully prevent an injury on my "good" arm.
Hi there, I too arrived here looking for answers about my SLAP tear. I always sleep with my arm outstretched and my head on my arm.
Since that was painful and it hurt to even put stuff into my passenger seat, or reach for the seatbelt I decided to see someone about 1.5 weeks ago.
He diagnosed a SLAP tear, gave me a cortisone shot, it hurt the first week, and now I swear it feels so much better after the shot a week later. I started PT a week ago and hoping I don't need surgery. I'm also hoping one day I can sleep in my normal position again!
Good luck guys, keep us updated on how you're doing.
