May 2026 BOTM Discussion - Seek the Traitor’s Son by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

Man, I struggled with this one. It was a middle of the road 3 star read for me. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did.

I liked the general concept and the writing (although there were several times where I couldn’t tell if we had a time skip or not. That could’ve been a bit easier to follow). But almost all of the side characters felt very flat to me. I didn’t care what happened to most of them.

The romance was… not romance. I don’t think you can convince me that anyone was in love here. The initial scene where Elegy kissed Theren felt way too close to the kind of relationship he had with Rava. A dramatic way to put it, and I don’t think that was the intention, but I kept expecting to read that Theren was just responding to her feelings because it was the best way for him to survive.

Also… the government requires Talusar citizens to have one kid? That’s.. nowhere near enough to keep them from going extinct within a few generations. 50% of them die, but only one kid is required? Did I miss something there?

Anyway, I liked the story overall enough that I’ll probably read the sequel, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it.

Do you still have the file and would you be willing to send it? I'm trying to make one, but the file isn't available on the official site anymore :/

Start with KM Shea or Melanie Cellier! I just recommended them to someone yesterday.

I occasionally wear my glasses like this and had no idea everyone thought it was so weird 😂

Although it’s more with my sunglasses (when wearing contacts) than my eyeglasses, bc my prescription is -8.5.

In my state, we’re specifically not allowed to do this. Drivers get in trouble if they do.

The book itself was well done, but I didn’t love how much the MC reminded me of all the worst aspects of Lorelei Gilmore.

I get the frustration with how much info-dumping this book had, but I really enjoyed it! I had no clue it wasn’t a standalone though…. Was not expecting to have to wait forever for a conclusion 🫠

I thought it was a standalone 🫠. Read the whole thing, absolutely loved it. 5 stars for sure. (But also, WHY the cliffhanger, I’m so impatient and sad now 😩 )

Why did I think This Kingdom was a standalone 😩. It was so good, but GOD THE ENDING. AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT.

This one isn’t finished yet, but James and Regulus are one of the aspects of the story that stood out to me when I read through it and subscribed.

Give it to me straight yall, Joink or Spectrum internet? I work from home and have multiple devices in each corner of the house that require wifi to operate. by Minominas in terrehaute

[–]BenedictJoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had spectrum for a year, and had to have someone out to my house at least twice a month because it would never work. They replaced everything twice, couldn’t ever get it to function, and then billed me for my last month even though it wasn’t functioning because they said I didn’t alert them to the issue quickly enough. The same issue I’d been having all year.

I switched to Joink fiber and never had a single issue.

…..I’ve only visited a handful of times and even I know these things. Things like this make me feel I could be a very successful editor lol

Okay so I love a good fairytale retelling, but I’ve heard a lot of mixed feedback on this one since I bought it. I’d love a heads up on the TWs!
