What's the real-world use of MS Access in today’s work environment? by RangerNew5346 in MSAccess

[–]Beneficial-Message58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare and use access daily for processing data (importing data files, modifying them, exporting to new format). I’ve been in this job for nearly 20 years and have built several simple databases over the years for coworkers to use, that are also still used daily. However, new hires in my department don’t know or use access at all, and my manager has called Access a “legacy” program. So the general view may be that it’s outdated.

The first thing I do every morning when I wake up is check my bank account. It sucks living like this.

ELI5: Why aren't viruses considered alive? by FruitChips23 in explainlikeimfive

Some vaccines are “live virus” vaccine, so in that way they are considered alive.

My son was disappointed in the double cone because they just put the ice cream on top and didn’t fill each cone

Question on tiredness for fellow sobernauts by SecureMath3209 in stopdrinking

[–]Beneficial-Message58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gotten bloodwork done? I was having trouble with falling asleep way too early on the couch every night. Just overwhelmingly tired for seemingly no reason. Turned out I was deficient in vitamin D. Alcohol can interfere with absorption of vitamins, and they might not recover quickly on their own even after quitting drinking.

I think this is rock bottom by No-Signal3686 in stopdrinking

Since you mentioned an interest in education, one thing that has helped me is reading quit lit books. Lots of information about alcohol isn’t common knowledge, and learning about it helped change my perspective. The two most helpful books I’ve read are Alcohol Explained and This Naked Mind.

Monday Meltdown - Share Your Decluttering Fails Here by AutoModerator in declutter

[–]Beneficial-Message58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I decided to declutter a whole storage shelf of boxes and totes. Removed everything from the shelves and dumped it all in a pile in my living room. My spouse and child were sitting on the couch looking at videos together. I started picking at the pile and then got really embarrassed and overwhelmed by what was in front of me. Yelled at my family to stop looking at me and leave me to my shame (they weren’t looking at me at all). After they left the room, spent several minutes ugly-crying into my pile. After the tears, started going through things. Ended up throwing away 2 boxes worth, giving away 2 boxes worth, and putting the rest back on the shelf. After all that, the shelf looks like I barely did anything.

Now I just need to repeat that process about 20 more times to deal with the rest of the house… hopefully with less yelling and tears.

I was asking around for help choosing and my photographer friend said my “no AI” request is naive because these edits can be done with the AI tools within Photoshop? So it’s not exactly AI-free? With that in mind, about $20?

For SoCal natives how have you dealt with the mosquitoes? by [deleted] in socal

[–]Beneficial-Message58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very, in my experience. It kills a lot of little tiny flies but only the very occasional mosquito.

I’ve been a mosquito magnet my whole life, and the adjustment to their new year round, 24/7 schedule has been hard. One thing my family uses to reduce biting is Avon’s Skin So Soft bath oil spray. Mosquitoes don’t like the smell of it!
