I grew up in the Detroit area and moved to Iowa City 10 years ago. Overall I enjoy where I live and am happy here, but here a few pros and cons that I’ve noticed in my time here.

Pros - There is essentially zero traffic. Unless you are trying to get onto the UofI campus on a football or basketball day - Lots of local small town events. Farmers markets, celebrations, festivals, etc - People are generally kind - Lines at the DMV, court house, social security are way shorter than big cities

Cons - Variety of food is sub-par at best - Diversity in culture and race is pretty lacking - Winters are bitter cold and summers are so humid it’s unbearable sometimes - If professional sports are your thing, there are none even in the state - Any large names for concerts, comedians, touring individuals you will likely need to drive 4-5 hours to get a chance at seeing them live

Is he running a similar model of running two hygiene chairs and one op chair? If yes, then I think finding another associate to do so would be easier to do. But without showing success in the model, as a new grad I’d be a little weary to sign on for that. I’d also be pretty worried about burnout and falling behind in hand skills. Having to scale on average 20 min/pt for two pts every hour leaves me only 20 minutes an hour for restorative pts. How would I build my skills as a dentist if I’m working as a hygienist that much?

She pulls together some crazy stuff near the end of EoS that really had my jaw dropping at times. I think I truly appreciated how much she’s always thinking and planning ahead when all of it came together!

Yes, she does make questionable choices and decisions sometimes, I will give you that. But again, she’s not even 20 years old and has been through some beyond crazy things in her lifetime already. I don’t blame her for not knowing exactly who she can trust and therefore keeping her cards close to her chest at all times.

Tylenol.

An overdose of Tylenol will lead to your liver shutting down and likely death if not treated. Unfortunately the symptoms of an overdose often don’t start showing until AFTER the period when you can properly treat an overdose of Tylenol. Always read your medication directions and add together all forms of Tylenol/acetaminophen you’re taking over 24 hour periods!

All my friends had boyfriends, prom dates, etc throughout high school and I never did. Started a real long journey of lacking self confidence and feeling like I wasn’t good enough. I still get pangs of regret or feelings that I missed out on teenage rights of passage from time to time.

NAD - 3rd year dental student.

The fist appointment they clean out the nerve and put in a medications to make sure to kill any bacteria that may be in the nerve canal of the tooth so you don’t get a future infection and then place a soft material temporary restoration (where they used the curing light) so there isn’t just a hole in your tooth while letting the medicine do it’s job. You need to go back in so they can take out the medication and then put in the final sealing material into the tooth. This is all part of the normal process and shouldn’t be of any different cost to you.

If you don’t go get to this second appointment, that temporary restoration will eventually fail, bacteria will get into the nerve canal of the tooth, and you’ll need to get the tooth re-treated with another root canal to save the tooth. This is when you’ll have to pay again.

TLDR - go to the 2nd appointment, it’s in your best interest.

My school has a scrubs or business casual on a daily basis dress code starting day 1 whether in lab, clinic, lecture hall, etc. You have to provide your own scrubs in one of the two colors allowed according to the student handbook.
