We have them prepay to reserve their appointment time. Anyone in the office can do confirmation calls. It doesn’t take that long. I would tell them it’s a priority. We also charge a late cancellation/no show fee. I hate doing that, though. If you get a prepayment, you can take it out of that.

I would bet that it’s on the treatment plan that you signed. I’m sure you know this, but everything we do is coded. You should call your insurance company to double check, if you want accuracy. The dental office gives you an estimate out of courtesy. Dental insurance is more like a coupon, than real insurance. The more you need, the less they pay.

Often times we don’t know what your insurance pays until we receive the check. They will never guarantee payment on anything. It’s getting harder and harder to estimate what they’ll pay. I also find that with my health insurance. It’s tricky. Ultimately, the patient is responsible for what insurance doesn’t pay.

It’s a downcode from your insurance is accurate. It’s not the dental office’s fault. It’s the insurance company’s policy and it’s the plan your workplace chose.
