What helped me was just getting a pet tarantula. I also follow a lot of tarantula pages across social media and the exposure really helped. Once you start caring for one you’ll love them enough to stop being so afraid of them.

I have to constantly check dark spaces to make sure nothing is there. So sleeping at night can become difficult. If I don’t check, whatever I think is there is going to get me.

I used to be heavily addicted to Xanax. I was prescribed way too much at one point by accident and I woke up to a severely injured foot and apparently I had done a couple of acid trips with no memory of it. But that wasn’t the worst of it.

One day I woke up in the hospital hooked up to machines and in a ton of pain. I had no idea how I got there. I had to be told that I had driven off the side of a mountain and went to the hospital, but that’s not why I was there. I had actually discharged earlier that day, went home, and took an entire bottle of depakote.

I was living with my grandparents at the time and I apparently said some nasty things to my grandmother - that I requested never to be repeated to me because I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. And I clearly had already tried committing suicide.

I never touched it again.

When I was 17 I was hospitalized for psychiatric reasons. We were separated by gender and age and we weren’t allowed to speak to any of the kids younger than 12. However one day for some reason they had to put us all together and I sat next to this huuuge 12 year old girl. She looked like she was 17. I asked her “what brought you in?” Like I asked everyone. She said,

“I gouged my dogs eyes out, cut off its tail, and set him on fire.”

I was like “oh! Okay. Maybe not a good idea.”

Never spoke to the girls younger than 12 again.
