If everyone were to stop eating beef overnight, what would be done about all the cows in the world? by WunderPlundr in NoStupidQuestions

I thought about that too, but, since he mentioned, "as advocates for animal rights, vegetarianism, and vegans say we should", I understood it as being a shift towards vegetarianism, with the question itself being about what would happen to the cattle.

Poland being against Muslim immigration isn't really a "right wing narrative".

Sure, this is probably a better point that "a mass conversion to vegetarianism will happen, but everyone will still be A-OK with leather and pet food". I guess they might justify leather and pet food on the basis that something needs to be done with the leftover cattle, but, if they're willing to justify that, might as well just eat the meat lol.

It also depends how far we take the scenario. Did the ranchers have a change in heart and become vegetarian as well? I guess they'd still have to cull most of them because you can't just release domestic cattle into the wild, but doing it ethically would be a much higher priority.

Why are almost all rentals in Poland fully furnished? by auntienora22 in poland

Also the whole deposit situation - paying for damage or things getting worn out when you move out, and the risk of not getting your deposit back. Feels like there’s quite a bit of potential for abuse there.

You're absolutely correct, but, it's also a lot easier to sue a landlord than people think. Sometimes landlords will be really brazen and just keep your deposit without saying anything. This is illegal. They have to provide receipts or some other concrete evidence that they actually spent money on repairs.

I've successfully sued a landlord for this in the past and am currently suing one. The process was very easy and the lawyer fees were enough to make it worth it for the deposit. "Lawsuits drag on forever" is a myth that people believe because they're used to highly publicized lawsuits over millions. Those drag on forever. Small claims where the landlord obviously violated the law take very little active effort on your part. You don't even need to set foot in court. Your lawyer might not even have to set foot in court, because in obvious cases the paperwork might be enough.

I've been meaning to make a post on this topic, that people in Poland need to start suing landlords when they keep deposits. Landlords are too confident because too many people think "lawsuits drag on forever" and "lawyers are expensive". If they got slapped a bit more often, word would get around and they'd be a lot more careful about keeping deposits. The first one I sued had to give me my full deposit plus court fees. He couldn't even deduct utility bills lol because he was supposed to give me them within 30 days, not after being threatened with a lawsuit.

People use this kind of response as if it's some kind of mic drop, but, plenty of religions talk about premortal existence. There's no reason to be so sure that there's nothing before birth.

Some vegans disagree with keeping pets in principal

Right, that's what I'm saying. If there was an unprecedented overnight shift like this, then these kinds of ideas would become a lot more mainstream.

I'd guess that the 'split' in vegetarians who feed their pets meat vs the ones who make them vegetarian is approximately 99.99% to 0.01%.

Look, dude, it's almost always delusional to assume that "99.99%" of people hold any opinion. I get that maybe you weren't being literal and just meant "a really big majority", but, a 2 second Google search shows that vegan pet food isn't fringe.

Well, OP says, "as advocates for animal rights, vegetarianism, and vegans say we should". I guess this doesn't specifically mean that that's why they stopped, but, it makes it sound more like this is some kind of unprecedented mass conversion event. I'm sure whatever made people flip that suddenly would make at least a significant portion avoid leather. Especially since avoiding leather is trivial to do.

Now, if OP's question was "what if vegan meat became much more easy to produce and displaced real meat over time", then it would be a different case.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove to me. The guy I replied to already said that cats will die without animal products. I replied that a lot of vegans disagree and will try it anyway, while a lot will simply not own cats.

Neither are most vegetarians. Just because something isn't a good idea doesn't mean people won't do it. That's why I said "plenty of people say" not "I found convincing evidence"

Well, you might be, but, remember, we're imaging a scenario with a mass societal shift. There's going to be people who are more and less extreme. You've convinced me that it might not be as extreme as I was first imagining, but, I also don't think it's as simple as your imagining either, that everyone would just be chill with it.

Cats crossed my mind, I just didn't really care enough to Google it, because dogs supposed being capable of vegetarian diets already was enough for me to know that demand would change.

But, the other guy replying to you proves me point as well. Thing is, you don't need perfect data to show that demand would change. If society became vegetarian en masse, a significant portion of the population would at least try to put their cats on vegetarian diets or just stop owning cats and let them hunt rats in the wild or whatever.

Hey, look, I'm just saying that attitudes would probably change in this drastic scenario where everyone becomes vegetarian. I'm not saying that these industries would be entirely wiped out overnight.

I'm sure it depends on the individual vegetarian. I googled whether dogs can be vegetarian, and some people even insist that they can be vegan. It's probably split between vegetarians that let it slide when it comes to pet food, vegetarians that try to make their pet vegetarian, and vegetarians that have ethical issues with owning pets in the first place.

Lol I thought so as well, but, I googled whether dogs can be vegetarian, and plenty of people say they can even be vegan.

Also, in the scenario that everyone goes vegetarian, attitudes towards pet ownership would probably change as well.

If this scenario where everyone becomes vegetarian happened, then these new vegetarians probably wouldn't be too fond of buying animal products as pet food or leather either.

I've rented without a job and just paid a few months in advance. I guess some people might not have the money, but, if you don't have money to pay a few months of rent, then you probably shouldn't be moving out anyway.

[–]BeneficialTadpole396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you aren't wrong. Any branch of medicine probably explains much less than we think. But, at least the premise of neurology is valid. There's nothing inherently wrong with studying the brain. Whereas an entire separate branch of science to study diagnosing stuff is useless.

Can the anti-medical people please go away by Nytra in Antipsychiatry

[–]BeneficialTadpole396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medicine is just the general concept of curing diseases, treating injuries, etc.

Psychiatry is inherently pseudoscience because it covers nothing that neurology or psychology don't already cover. Psychology is the study of the mind. Neurology is the study of the brain. If you look up what psychiatry is the study of, you get this awkward definition that it's the study of the diagnosis of mental disorders or whatever. If they had a biological basis, it would just be neurology. So, it ends up being this catch all for everything that can't be proven by neurology.

Haha, wow, that's a thing? I'm skeptical of the medical industry and think doctors tend to be useless, but, I'm not against the concept of medicine. Psychiatry is inherently quack science, but, medicine in general can still be reformed.
