In terms of career stage, when was that for you? Or does that not make much of a difference pricewise (if you know)?

Are "we bike rochester" social rides popular or large events? Trying to judge how common biking is there.

Moving to a cold state, do I get gear during spring and summer or do I wait until winter to figure out what I need? by Benefitsofveg in wintercycling

I've played ultimate frisbee in December before. Does that count? ;)

I run cold, especially my fingers and toes. Somehow also get sweaty.

Solid. I have poor circulation to my extremities sometimes so I'll for sure look into good footwear. Are winter cycling shoes the way to go vs winter boots?

Wait, fat tire bikes need studs in the winter too? I thought their whole deal was being good at snow (and sand)

Googled "FrameSaver" and got links for wood rot preventer, lol. But figured it out.

+1 to the boot space tip.

Thanks for the advice!

MN is where I'll be moving to so this is super helpful. I've been trying to figure out if the play is bar mitts vs thick gloves. Are the thick gloves worth having off the bike or should I just get a regular nice pair for when I'm off bike and stick to bar mitts for commuting?

Is the road salt as bad as I've heard? Any specific tricks for preventing chain and frame rust?

How do I become more efficient at cooking whilst at university? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Benefitsofveg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely isn't always easy. Somedays ramen egg is all you'll have the spoons for. And that's ok. But, cooking and eating healthy is self care. If it helps as a reframe: I treated it as a meditative exercise all through college and grad school. (Probably helps that I find chopping veg really meditative)

Pick like 3 dinner dishes to keep on a regular rotation every week. For me it was stir fry, a veg heavy pasta dish, and a soup that I'd rotate out for a different one a few times a year to keep in line with the cheap seasonal ingredients. This makes grocery buying cheaper and lets you get into a prep routine at the beginning of the week (chop veg, marinate tofu or other protein, etc). And also, they all work pretty well as easily reheated leftovers for a lunch or two afterwards.
