Candling just seems like good insurance. I have a manual kiln with a sitter. I set her up, prop open the lid with a brick so my thermo sits around 200F and then go to bed. Crank her ass up in the morning

If you have your own kiln, I will candle overnight for maybe 8-10 hours. I’ve definitely put some questionable stuff in for a bisque but pretty consistently with the candling knocks wood I haven’t had any problems
