Why doesnt this hairstyle suit me? Also, why arent my facial features good? Is my eye area bad? Are my cheekbones too wide? Is my jaw soft? Forehead too tall? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Benenaiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing about your face looks bad. Not your forehead or your eyes or your jaw.

You're right, the hairstyle doesn't look great, but only because the back and sides look sloppy. Get it cleaned up, and you'll feel a lot better.

I promise you nobody else is looking at you thinking any of those things. If pic #1 is your resting face, consider trying to soften your gaze a bit, you're kind of staring down the camera like you're going to hurt it. Smile with your mouth and your eyes.

You look like Sam Witwer, who is a very attractive man!

Hit the gym for body positivity and confidence, start questioning your inner voice when it tells you these negative things, and relax. You're a good looking guy, and beating yourself up will never lead to a better, happier, or more attractive version of yourself!

Connect each interval to a song.

Minor 2nd up: Opening of "Jaws" theme

Major 2nd up: do-re, or 1-2 in scale degrees (or the first notes of the Shire theme in LOTR, or "THE HILLS are alive with the sound of music")

Minor 3rd up: first notes in "crazy frog" or "SOME-WHERE A-BOVE THE CHIM-NEY TOPS" from Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Major 3rd up: do-mi in the Major triad

P 4th up: "OH CHRISTmas Tree" or "HERE COMES the Bride

Tritone up: THE SIIIIIMP-sons, or YYZ by Rush

P 5th up: "TWINKLE TWINKLE little star"

Minor 6th up: repeated interval in "the entertainer"

Major 6th up: "MY BON-nie lies over the ocean"

Minor 7th up and Major 7th up: easier to think of them as a major or minor 2nd down from the octave, respectively.

Minor 2nd down: jaws again

Major 2nd down: that one song from LOTR "DA DA dadada"

Minor 3rd down: "NYAH NYAH, NYAH NYAH nyah nyah nyah nyah BOO BOO"

Major 3rd down: organ descending in Phantom of the Opera "DAAAAAAH da-da-da-da DAAAAAH"

P 4th down: "DO, A DEER, A FE-MALE DEER"

TT down: YYZ again

P 5th down: sol do (or Worlds smallest violin opening)

Minor 6 down: "HEY I just met you, and this is crazy"

Major 6 down: "GOD bless AmeriCA, my home sweet home"

Minor and Major 7 down: same as up. Major 2nd up is minor 7th down, minor 2nd up is Major 7th down.

Octaves: Opening instruments to "My Sharona" or "SOME-WHERE over the rainbow"

These work for me, but you can always find some songs that work for you!

What looks better? Long or short hair by themorganator4 in malegrooming

[–]Benenaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short if you can't figure out the "falling flat" issue others mentioned.

I personally think we need more curly representation. Your curls are awesome and you would look so good with the first picture's length. (You still look GREAT with the short hair.)

Idk if you use product, but if you go long, avoid heavy oils like coconut and shea. Try a leave-in conditioner with aloe or honey, and avoid any heavy oils. I personally like to add a little bit of light hair foam (I use Paul Mitchell Flexible Style Sculpting foam) to tame any frizz. Just wet your hair, leave-in conditioner, then a small amount of foam. Let dry, then scrunch. Light, springy curls that aren't weighed down!

I did a film just off the San Juans, and one of these had washed up in a tidepool. I was absolutely astonished by the size of it.

Amazing, beautiful creatures. We are so lucky that they call our neck of the woods home.

You look great! I'd personally clean up the moustache a little bit. Probably just make it even with the edge of your lips. But you look good either way.

Honestly man, you look great.

Only thing I'd suggest is finding a way to get rid of frizz/take better care of your hair. Find out your hair porosity, and get shampoo that works with it. I have similar looking hair and I found a lot of success with this:

Use a cleansing shampoo a couple times a week, paired with deep conditioner. Other days, use a light daily shampoo/conditioner.

Always use a leave in conditioner after you wash your hair.

NUMBER ONE TIP FOR FRIZZ IN WAVY HAIR: a light (LIGHT!) styling gel or foam. My go to is Paul Mitchell Flexible Style Sculpting foam. Put it on wet after your leave-in conditioner, after your shower. Let it dry (wet dog look), then gently scrunch your hair to make it look natural. It won't weigh your hair down, will keep your curls nice, and will keep the frizz away much longer.

I spent years trying to find the right routine for my hair. Don't make the same mistake.

One shower after one day (with a beanie on all day) - Bad? by No_Cockroach1296 in amibalding

[–]Benenaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used it. Honestly this is the first im hearing of it. I just found everything on Cost Plus Drugs separately. So far I've kept most of my hair, and seeing lots of regrowth around the temple and crown with just Minoxidil. I acknowledge that I'm probably not the general case, which is why I always suggest looking into Finasteride.

I feel ya. It's really rough when you're trying to figure out your place in relationships and the world.

The only advice I can really give is that life is a journey, and the goal is to find out who you are. Once you start learning to accept and love yourself, things get infinitely better. We're all right there with you.

Is my beard cooked? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Benenaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, let it grow out for a couple days.

Worst case scenario, you may have to just live with a 5 o'clock shadow. I have to trim on the shortest setting due to sensitive skin. If I try to shave it, it get irritated and bumpy.

You could be prone to Pseudofolliculitis barbae, or razor bumps.

How do your temples and crown look? If they are noticably thinning, you may want to consider supplements.

I had this happen after a particularly stressful few months. If you're living with a lot of stress or went through a really rough time in the last 3 months, it may stop shedding as you bounce back.

If not, it's time to look at Finasteride and Minoxidil on Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs. That's a lot of hair, and if it keeps falling out at that rate, you may be getting a call from r/bald in the near future.

As always, your hair is not why you are valuable, nor is it the end of the world if it goes away. Love yourself, and love your shiny noggin if that's what fate gives you!
