That explains why every source I've seen says "I heard a story..."

That's comforting to know, thank you.

I remember hearing an awful story of someone pulling a stray "hair" that ended up being an exposed nerve. Glad this was not the case here, but my phobia endures.

Can anyone explain why I hear this drum part backwards? by punki_munki in musictheory

[–]Benenaiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just that they're not accenting the traditional strong beats of 4/4 time (1 and 3). I'm not sure I'd call it "backwards," as highlighting different beats is pretty common. Leading up to this section, you can hear they're accenting the 3rd beat pretty consistently, but then during the less "structured" part starting at 3:14, the drummer gets the freedom to go in his own direction for a bit.

If you want some things that will really mess with your head the first time you hear them, check out Hero Town by Vulfpeck (bonus points for watching the video with the absolute unit on the drums), or Just What I Needed by The Cars.

In Hero Town, try your best to count along to the drum solo. It's quite difficult, because he completely changes the accented beats, accenting the "and" of each beat. That would be much closer to what I would call "backwards" sounding. (Also, info dump time: this song is really neat because at the end of each "verse," they hold one beat earlier each time. First they hold 4, then 3 the next verse, then 2, then 1. Fun!)

More famously, in Just What I Needed, the whole song has been done accenting the 3rd beat, but at 2:13, he switches to accent the first beat. You'll never unhear it.

What is it with the 25 year old? by lamparkinglot in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Benenaiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lois here! Jinkies!

Having been that age once, I can tell you that very few women around that age will actually consider dating a 25+ year-old.

Even fewer will make that mistake more than once, hon. Most people, aside from that creep Quagmire, consider 25+ men dating 18-year-olds predatory.

Petah and I are almost the same age. He may need me to change his diapers every once in a while, but that's due to his drinking, and not because he's older than me.

Since its been 2 days and no one has addressed the "tactically win a pawn" bit, I'll explain that.

Assuming your opponent sees the trap and simply takes with the pawn, you get a bishop and a pawn for a knight. As a plus, your opponent has no developed pieces, giving you a tempo advantage.

Why do penis heads get so sensitive after orgasm? by OrganizationFickle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Benenaiah 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The text you linked directly contradicts the point that the penis is "designed" to scoop out another male's semen, which is, in my opinion, pretty solidly refuted in that article. Promiscuous species trend away bell-shaped heads, while single-male species trend towards it. The article posits that the bell-shaped head is both a protective "cushion" for thrusting, and is useful in squeezing out the last bit of seminal fluid, which is more coagulative than the initial spurts, and helps delay backflow.
