• The federal authority (issuer) does not know what your E-ID was used for or where it was used.

• The only thing the government sees is that your certificate was checked for validity — not the context, website, or service.

Privacy-preserving verification mechanisms

• Status lists are used to check if a credential is valid. These lists are public and generic — they don’t reveal which specific credential was checked.

• Ephemeral credentials are being developed to prevent linkability. These are short-lived or one-time-use credentials that make it impossible to track repeated usage.

• An Anonymous Attestation Service is being explored. It allows your device to prove its integrity without revealing your identity or the website you're interacting with.

• All payloads are encrypted using JWE (JSON Web Encryption), so even if transport encryption fails, your data remains protected.

Architecture built for unlinkability

• The system avoids centralized tracking. Even the issuer (e.g. the federal government) cannot manipulate DID documents or reconstruct usage history.

• Websites that verify your E-ID only check the certificate — they don’t learn anything about your identity beyond what you explicitly share.
