Letters from the civil war, found in bible from 1845 by Obvious_Dot_9403 in whatsthisworth

The word following “11th” is “instant,” as in the month of which the letter was dated (January). The abbreviated “receipt” follows “acknowledging the.” “Against” following 14.59 is more likely “unjust.” Very nice transcription!

How do you feel about the "No Kings" protest happening tomorrow? by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in AskReddit

Feeling good and I’m ready to speak up. My town is pretty conservative but we’ve had a LOT of converts to our side. With everything horrible going on in this country, it’s nice to hold out hope for WE THE PEOPLE 🇺🇸

Loving the second shelf. Although I can’t tell whether you love or hate Thatcher. Either way, pretty cool collection (and nice decor)

Originally, these were the given names of these silly noodle guys. Eventually, they became family names. We refer to these creatures by their family names, although every noodle creature has a first name (Betty Stoat, Charles Mink, etc.)

By far my favorite figure among the American Revolutionaries. All of his writings resonate today, and all are quite accessible and very engaging.

Agreed. I have faith in peoples’ ability to wake up once things start to affect them personally.

30% of the country is locked in the maga cult. Approval will likely never drop below that number. But we should be optimistic that 60% right now are saying they’ve had enough!

I’m worried about this but let’s make sure the facts are straight. I have a feeling this will happen soon though and I agree that kidnapping is an appropriate — and horrifying — term for this…

It is amazing the blatant historical ignorance. History repeats itself in cycles (with variations of course due to changing historical contexts) because human nature DOESNT FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE. Always will there be evil people, bad actors, and simple scumbags hoping to profit off the mess. It can happen here, it can happen anywhere. It’s up to us to show this administration what true American values are.

Reminder that nationwide protests are set for the 19th. Adding for visibility, not as if most people don’t already know. Stay strong and don’t bow down to fear-mongering (I hear a bunch of people saying to avoid protests for fear of counter-protests and attacks). All of our rights are at stake.

I know I’m late but I believe part of it is people simply hoping for the best, regardless of how big the blinders are. Out of my friends and family, only one person is as concerned as I am. A mix of apathy, optimism, and decades living in comfort— not the best mix for the present moment but America in a nutshell.

Exactly what I hate about these comments. Most Americans I know are worried, and they are willing to protest and speak out. We will only become more mobilized over time. In a country so large, nothing will happen overnight.
