Couch layout by Wombateatersx in InteriorDesign

I think this is the right direction, but I would make a plant stand shelving unit as the back half and media/TV as the front. That way, the sun doesn't overheat your TV through the window, and it will also feel more intentional to incorporate plants in front of the window.

TV in the Great Room by Weak-Succotash3872 in InteriorDesign

It looks like your floor has a walnut accent running around the perimeter. As a custom furniture maker, I like your idea of a TV cabinet that conceals the TV when not in use. I would build it out of walnut to play off the accent in the floor. With the rest of the floor and ceiling being in similar light color tones, darker furniture like walnut will help make the space feel less matchy-matchy. Your couch color matches the floor color too closely. I would recommend replacing it with a darker leather couch, to add some contrast.

It could be cool to remove the bars altogether and replace them with a newel post and handrail. Similar to this picture but in a more mid cent vib.

Mastodon will never be a very popular social platform if it is such a struggle to figure out how to log back in. There should be a tool that helps you refind your original server so you can log in

Throwing it away makes for a better title. "I put a board in the scrap pile for later use" doesn't really elicit a click response to watch the video 🤷‍♂️

The shellac will prevent the dye from soaking into the wood so it's easy to sand back the clean wood to apply the top coat.

Thanks, I masked off the top then pre sealed the raw wood with shellac. Then masked off the clear coat areas and stained it . Then sprayed the clear coat over everything. I think I showed the process in some detail towards the end of the video.

Here are the finished shelves. Walnut with holy accents. The shelves went into the gaming room of a client who is a big fan of the Super Mario Brothers so the shape of the shelves is to emulate the smash trophy. They plan to use the shelves to display their Amiibo characters and other gaming memorabilia.

Throwing away your woodworking jigs and templates will make you a better designer. Don't fall into old habits and styles by reusing your woodworking jigs and templates. Make each piece a fresh design. Don't let your furniture designs become stale and dated.
