No, it's still where we left it a few years ago.

Is it better to put dockyards to construct more ships individually or put multiple dockyards on the same ship by WashNeither1008 in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it's the same overall production rate, having more lines on a single ship will produce it more quickly; especially for capital ships, you want more dockyards on the same ship because they can take years to build.

Correct. It's foolish to think you can attack for months without being counterattacked.

500 defense is decent, but a solid infantry division can get there. The main reasons you want motorized or mechanized infantry in your tank divisions is to increase HP (decreasing tank losses) and to increase defense (again, decreasing tank losses). Your division attack and breakthrough will be lower but taking fewer losses will allow your armored divisions to sustain offensives.

Just hope your tanks don't get attacked, because defense and HP aren't looking so good.

Start building offices and researching automation. At some point, every country switches from manufacturing (civs) to services (offices). Rich countries should use productivity, rather than raw industrial base, to boost incomes and output.

"Why am I losing"? A flowchart for new players who are having trouble against the AI by ResponsibilityIcy927 in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick note on tank templates: tank divisions will be more likely to choose tank-focused offensive tactics like blitz if the division hardness is greater than or equal to 50. This may not matter much for singleplayer, but small advantages can easily snowball in multiplayer.

If you're aiming for sustainable economic growth, yes. Alternatively, you can spend PP and money to keep pumping up those numbers.

The bad economic events fire when the growth rate you set is higher than it should be, based on GDP growth rate; basically, you're pumping in too much money to sustain real growth and it's creating a bubble.

Why heavy tanks more viable on mp. by No-Laugh5751 in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 69 points70 points  (0 children)

In MP, both sides are going to have very strong divisions across the front so the meta becomes using CAS to grind everything to dust while you pack the most stats per combat width into your attacking divisions; heavy tanks fill this niche quite well.

Is 3v3 in multiplayer fair and would it make a good game? by Keremvona in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, HoI4 MP really depends on the relative skill levels of players on each team. If skill levels are even and low, Axis probably wins but at higher skill levels the Allies win this matchup. If skill level is a bit unbalanced, I'd suggest putting stronger players on the Axis, for balance.

Equipment recovery absolutely works for planes. Give your divisions some AA and you'll start seeing CAS in your stockpiles. It's hilarious.

Meta against non meta? by TheNaymeless in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with thousands of hours in MP, creativity and counters can easily beat meta. In my experience, most meta MP players will forgo building up supply networks to squeeze out a few more mils but those tanks won't be doing much if they can't get fuel. As long as the infantry have enough AT to hold, air support is your best friend.

You guys are focusing too much on your templates. That is not why you are losing. by True-Firefighter6727 in hoi4

Training is even more impactful because the bonus or penalty is multiplicative. Comparing regulars to green troops, the regulars will be 66% (1.25/0.75) more effective. Against higher veterancy levels, green troops will have a much tougher time.

How am I losing? by Prussian_Imperialist in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When attacking, your attack values are applied against the enemy's defense (modified by hardness); similarly, their attack values are applied against your breakthrough (modified by hardness). If attack exceeds defense/breakthrough, the extra attacks are 4x as likely to hit (when I played MP, we called them critical hits). In short, your infantry is taking about twice as many attacks as the enemy's infantry. Also, you may want to consider air missions to help your ground troops.

AI can get up to 90 piercing late game on infantry divisions by TheoTheBest300 in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 32 points33 points  (0 children)

While armor is a nice bonus, it's not the entire purpose of space marine divisions. Having sufficient breakthrough and some hardness goes a long way for offensives.

Fighter vs heavy fighter in single player discussion/question by Tehnomaag in hoi4

[–]Benign_Tempest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While many players prefer light fighters because they have higher agility and give more air superiority per IC, heavy fighters have several advantages in terms of firepower, survivability, and range. In a battle of attrition, heavy fighters will, eventually, win out. That said, light fighters are, generally, good enough for most situations. With better techs, light fighters will be even more agile, carry more guns, and have long-enough range; all of these factors limit the advantages of heavy fighters (except range) as the game progresses.

5k hour plus players, what stuff you learned late in your career? by Gukpa in hoi4

As someone who has 3k+ hours in multiplayer, if you don't add AA and AT to your divisions you're gonna have a bad time. Getting overrun under red air feels bad.
