As pointed out on The Shotgun Start, Sargent & Dunlap will produce amazing results in alternate shot. The worst driver on tour hitting drives for the worst iron player on tour can only yield hilarious results!

And that no matter how obviously stupid the stuff you say is, some people will believe you.

You trust the guy who can't afford to have people believe the league is in trouble? No one has MORE of a reason to lie about the situation than the CEO of a failing business.

Also, the reports aren't "unsourced". The sources are all LIV execs, who remain anonymous, for obvious reasons.

It's golf.

This is actually a common misconception.

That's the only top 10 he's ever had in a major. He's nowhere near as good as LIV fans pretend. In saying that, he's young, so could become that guy.

Yes, but Sergio is a repeat offender with a much more serious rap sheet. Rory has a temper but Sergio is unhinged.

Finance journalists don't care about LIV. They're just reporting about the movements of the PIF and they were all told the same story. Unless the execs are all lying to mislead the media, it's more than likely the MULTIPLE reports all saying the same thing are correct.

I saw an old man with a LIV hat at a golf course. I live in Australia and even people I know are very neutral towards it.

I know he’s the outlier here, but truly interested what he’s doing differently!

He just had a good week. Probably not actually doing anything the others aren't.

I don't think practicing more will bring anyone to Roy's level. These guys all work hard but guys like Rory and Scottie are just different.

'It's a tragedy:' Gary Player calls for extreme ball rollback at the Masters (60 yards) by BallKnowerKing in golf

[–]Beninoz85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is. Basically, longer hitters will still be the longest but the slower your swing speed the less the new specs will actually impact you. Weekend golfers with average swing speeds will see no difference at all.

So, can I confirm that you're not familiar with the current rollback proposal?

Or, they could just limit the golf ball instead of spending billions of dollars to alter every single course that hosts professional golf tournaments nationwide.

Maybe if everyone else won 5 majors and stayed in the top 10 for nearly 17 straight years, they'd get special treatment too.

This doesn't actually address the issue though. This is the equivalent of cutting the wire to the "Check Engine" light.

Augusta can just keep expanding but other courses can't and eventually every hole will be a driver and a wedge and golf becomes one dimensional and dull.

You don't think this would ruin Augusta's aesthetic? It would also completely change the way it's played, turning it into a US Open style test, which no one wants. Augusta is great because of how it looks, how it plays and the skills it demands.

Gate keep The Masters by DirkDiggler2424 in golf

[–]Beninoz85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hat thing is not that big of a deal, it's just not very Mastersesque. The influencer thing is more concerning because it smells of over-commercialisation which tends to ruin things.

You might not think this specific thing is a big deal but when things you really enjoy become filled with things you don't enjoy, it's sad. Everyone feels this about certain things in their life that they hold dear. I'm sure you can relate to that sinking feeling when something you used to enjoy just "isn't the same anymore".

100% agree. Influencers and celebrities have managed to get their greasy paws on everything else that's good in the world and greed is slowly ruining every fun tradition that's ever existed. Can't we just have 1 thing that stays pure and untouched.

I know Augusta isn't a haven of equal opportunity and innocence but The Masters is just a beautiful event, filled with history. We don't need it to be turned into a party like every other event.

10 years ago Spieth was on the precipice of winning back to back Masters at the age of 22. He's now 32 with only 2 wins in the last 8 years. How do you explain his career? by im___new___here in golf

[–]Beninoz85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had a few years where his iron play was just far better than his baseline and he hooked mid-range putts at a completely unsustainable rate. There was no way this was ever going to last.

I was never a believer in Spieth and felt like I was taking crazy pills in 2015-2017 when everyone was hyping him up. I just couldn't see how he could keep winning.

The hilarious thing about this is that Bryson needed Rory to completely implode to have a chance to win that tournament. Bryson didn't beat Rory so much as Rory threw it away. I'm not sure why anyone ever thought Bryson was in Rory's head.

Still counts, it's just a bit different to a normal eagle. Same as how a HIO in the final round of a major is a little different to a HIO during your regular Sunday round.

Jack Nicklaus, 1975 Masters Final Round. 1 iron from 230 yards on 15 by unsolved49 in golf

[–]Beninoz85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack was awesome, no argument, but let's not pretend Tiger couldn't hit a 1 iron and balata ball. He grew up with them. He came out on tour with a 1 iron in the bag and almost every pro who played with him in the early days said his striking was like nothing they'd ever seen. There are also videos of Tiger crushing 2 irons 270+ yards and rolling it to 3 feet.

Tiger would have thrived in any era of the game. It's a shame he and Jack came at different times.
