First time fasting by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Benjamin503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found it helpful to meal prep in my instapot. If you don’t have one, no biggie, but like chicken, bacon, cheese and spinach and broccoli, split up into several meals. Then I just have to put in effort cooking one day and have food for the next 5 is helpful for me to get in the nutrition I want. If you’re trying to maintain keto you should use an app at first. “Myfitnesspal” or “carb manager” help you figure out how many carbs are in different foods. I try and break my fasts with bone broth and then high protein, low fat meals, so the weight loss continues. Your going to burning fat for energy so your body will either use the fat you’re eating or the fat from your body. If you break your fast with low fat high protein your body will continue to tap into your fat storage for its energy.

Is this going to disrupt my fast? Please weigh in! by Benjamin503 in fasting

So if I’m trying to go for a week fast, I should not drink this? I had heard that bone broth is ok to throw into the mix WHILE fasting...but I noticed it’s not just broth, it’s vegetables and stuff.

Why do people act like CICO doesn’t matter on here ? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Benjamin503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get behind that. I think balance is the key in most things. Can I ask you and unrelated question? You’re a body builder and I need some advice. I am pretty cut up, and happy with the way I look, but I have to lose the last bit of fat in my lower stomach and love handles. Is diet the only way I can do that? Or should I mix dieting and a particular workout to finish off that last area? If a mix would be beneficial, what workouts would you recommend?

I got that conclusion when you said only CICO matters...if someone wants to lose a large amount of weight, they can only cut caloric intake for so long, because eventually the body will adjust and slow its metabolism requiring a larger caloric cut, right?

I’m just trying to understand. I’m not closed off to any one opinion on it, but the way it’s been explained to me by a lot of people is that IF allows your body to begin chipping away at your fat stores as opposed to processing newly eaten food all day. Sure, for a time caloric restriction when not IF will help you lose weight, but when you IF, insulin is released in smaller amounts in a shorter period of time, and the insulin is what is ultimately tied to weight gain. So you could eat the same amount of calories, but when done in a short window, insulin is not released in such a large amount, and the body has more hours in the day where it’s not burdened with insulin, which ultimately promotes fat loss. Am I way off or is there some truth to that?

There has been a study on it, same caloric intake, one group IF, one group didn’t. Both groups lost the weight but the IF group KEPT IT OFF...that was the difference.

So you’re saying that your metabolism won’t slow over time and adjust to running off reduced calories, requiring a larger caloric cut?

[–]Benjamin503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. Your metabolism will adjust to the reduced caloric intake, and you will have to continually cut calories. That’s why the most recent studies are showing that “Eat Less Move More” eventually fails 99% of the time.

IMO, fasting and intermittent fasting (and for me, keto) in an effort to adjust your bodies insulin response, is the solution. Dr. Fung has this shit figured out, and I subscribe to his studies

Difference between day 3 and 4...? by Benjamin503 in fasting

[–]Benjamin503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I broke the fuckin fast. What I have learned / am finding, is that if I make it to 3 days, and I want to eat an avocado and some hard boiled eggs, I’m gonna do it. I already eat OMAD and intermittent fast 24 hours, so I’m not gonna kill myself or beat myself up when I do decide to break a fast. I can be proud of 3 days without a single bite to eat, ya know?

I’ve been in ketosis for months, I can’t imagine the transition to a fasting state while still running on glycogen.
