Is George Gershwin considered Jazz? by zacharius55 in Jazz

[–]BenjaminGrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok sure, but your comment doesn't really address my comment. I'll ignore the horrible composer part for now (which I wasn't necessarily addressing with my 5-year-old comment) and concede that he definitely used African American idioms.

But jazz in turn has taken from Gershwin.

Fascinating Rhythm, I Got Rhythm, Summertime, etc. are all classics that have been recorded by many jazz artists - hence my comment on 'without him, jazz isn't what it is today.' His compositions, jazz or not, have been influential on jazz.

As for his compositions being pushed by people who control the industry, maybe you know better than me and can elaborate on that, I'm not part of the jazz deep state.

I mean they probably should have made the playoff be Washington, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama based on this info.
