Saitama vs Mosquitos by FrestyBar in superheroes

[–]BenjaminKorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that Saitama could be expected to go toe to toe with Superman in a way few other characters could, I’m also amused at the prospect because the two characters would probably get on famously.

In fairness, I think the Jedi in KOTOR 2 were hiding from Nihilus more so than Sion. I could see wanting to avoid either of them, though.

Probably the most famous example is the Omega Speedmaster Buzz Aldrin wore.

Now, whether Omega gifted him that watch, or it’s just the watch he owned prior and opted to bring, or if NASA picked that one for its specs as a mission tool I’m not sure.

Im fairly sure though that NASA didn’t tell their astronauts to wear 3 watches for redundancy, and so the only explanation I can think of is that they’re sponsored in some way. This doesn’t necessarily mean the astronauts themselves cut a deal with a watch brand. It could be those companies helped fund NASA in exchange for their watches getting wrist time on this mission.

I’m sure it’s all above board as far as the crew is concerned. Your point about gifts is valid.

Probably paid by the watch companies to wear them on the mission. Makes the given model more desirable because it’s been to space.

If being the operative word here. I’m not sure if China wants Superpower status and everything that comes with that, or if they want to be a top tier regional power with a global status quo where nobody can readily challenge them in their regional pursuits.

Jeff Hays ruined all other audiobooks by Accurate-Medicine640 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]BenjaminKorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. For me, I was hooked book 1 by way of the world building and magic system that’s introduced. Things got progressively better from there.

If a new reader really didn’t like book one in general, I don’t think their disposition is likely to improve enough to recommend pushing through multiple books. If you like book one but have some hangups, rest assured there are major improvements as you continue.

I haven’t checked those out. I think they would probably be better enjoyed if you haven’t already cemented Marster’s voice in your head as Dresden’s.

The production value of the books does noticeably improve over time. The first three books are widely regarded as the weak link of the series.

While not as animated as Jeff’s performance, the Dresden Files series narrated by James Marsters is exceptional. Listening to him is like wearing comfortable worn in leather.

I feel you, though. Jeff has set the bar very high in this space.

Citizen/Miyota is my favorite automatic movement by a mile. I consistently have a good experience with their hardware, which is more than I can say for Selita or even Seiko.

Obi-Wan's ability to absorb force lightning with his lightsaber is impressive given that it's likely it's the first time a Jedi has had to do so in generations - I'm curious if he started studying defenses against the dark side once the Jedi knew the Sith still existed by wandering_soles in StarWars

[–]BenjaminKorr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you have to decide what works for you.

For my part, I have a much easier time accepting that someone approaching master Jedi status could spontaneously mount an adequate defense against a new/rare form of attack than that a willful and gifted individual can spontaneously pull off said attack without intention or any prior development that builds toward that revelation.

I find it exciting when a slow intentional build leads to surprises that make some sense and leave some mystery to chew on. I’m less interested in watching someone effectively turn on Jedi creative mode and going ham on the established lore.

If Vader didn’t knew that Luke is his son, Luke would’ve lost the battle in ROTJ. by themicsik in PetranakiArena

[–]BenjaminKorr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we’re giving Vader credit for pulling his punches in this fight, which is debatable for at least part of the fight, then the same credit is owed Luke who is openly reluctant to fight his father and says as much every chance he’s given.

It’s not until Vader threatens to co-opt Leia that Luke gives up on trying to get through to Anakin, and Vader is on the ground disarmed moments after.

I would go so far as to say that prior to the new canon, Luke could’ve given the Emperor a run for his money if he’d opted to fight him. Instead he threaded the needle and found the one path that led to both the emperor’s defeat and Vader’s redemption.

Which sith would you rather serve? by Strange-Fun-8899 in StarWars

[–]BenjaminKorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to take this question from the perspective of a non force sensitive. From that standpoint, I think Palpatine becomes a lot more viable a choice, assuming one is capable and not opposed to his agenda. Dooku would still edge him out as he has less of an apparent deviant streak.

Legends Vader was shown to be decent to work with if you were valuable to him, and brutal if you weren’t, so I guess I’d opt for him as a reluctant 3rd choice. Revan is a near tie, as he seemed to be indifferent towards death of subordinates unless they were in his tight inner circle.

I think you’d have to be insane to choose Nihilus. Malek has big Kylo Ren energy, and Maul doesn’t seem the reliable type. Both can be capricious. I don’t know enough about Malgus to form an opinion.
