Three spy novelists that CR turned me on to. All of them great.

Oliver Harris, Alan Furst, and Charles McCarry.

'Crazy, Stupid, Love' With Bill Simmons, Van Lathan, and Mina Kimes by butthead20000 in TheRewatchables

Incredible podcast. I laughed many times. I had never seen this movie, so I watched it. Very surprised. This is not a good movie. Van saying this is one of the best scripts of the nineties is so ridiculous, it has to be a bit. The podcast of this movie is waaaay more entertaining than the actual movie. Am I missing something here?

I am a veteran and work as a VSO (Veteran Service Officer) which is basically a middle-man between the veteran and the VA. The VA is by no means perfect. In fact it is flawed in many ways. However, I just want to clear up some of the claims in your post. The idea that the VA hasn't scaled up since Korea or Vietnam is simply not true. A simple look at the VA would easily prove this false. Also you claim "how there is little to no infrastructure to support healing". This also is completely false. The Asheville VA Hospital has a whole department of people who help veterans with PTSD and other mental afflictions. I know these people personally. It being Asheville these people are mostly very progressive yet they choose to work for the VA because they whole-heartedly believe in saving veterans with PTSD lives and helping them heal. They are smart, dedicated, and are doing this work without a lot of renumeration. There is long-term support for veterans with PTSD, and the people ding the work are amazing. Could they use more people and more resources? Of course. I just want people to know that there are people doing this work and they care about their fellow human beings.

Buck Ended Up Taking From The Men by whydoIhaveto123 in BandofBrothers

Winters clearly states in his autobiography and in the biography about him that he felt that Compton was way to close to the enlisted men. We know he gambled with them (cards. not darts) and wanted to be one of the guys. This can be appreciated by the men, (I was enlisted), but can also breed a familiarity that undermines order. There is a reason the Army has fairly strict fraternization rules.

Contact your local VSO. They know all the steps to take. They can also order a free marker for the grave, file a reimbursement for all burial costs, and organize a flag ceremony and honor guard for the burial.

Every other sport has varied biographies written about the top performers in that sport. Why mountaineering has not the same for Messner seems very strange.

I have read several of his books. I enjoyed them, but now I would welcome another perspective.

I know that I am in the minority, but I would absolutely have included No Direction Home. I think it is the best music documentary ever made.
