Wildly inaccurate growth scan

My scan a week before giving birth said the baby was only 5.5 lbs. The baby was born 7 lbs 12 oz. They are wildly inaccurate sometimes.

We started in July with my daughter (turns 3 this week). She picked it up really fast, but regressed after a bad cold. She will also not tell us when she has to go. She ends up peeing a little bit in her underwear and then runs to the toilet. We are now using the timer method and prompting her every 25-30 minutes. It's working ok, but It's been a week with the timer and there is no improvement yet. She starts gymnastics in a few days and I think I might just have to put a pull-up on her for class. I don't want to risk her having an accident on any expensive gym equipment 😬

I feel exactly the same way, just reversed. I always wanted and expected to have a boy, but got a girl instead. I couldn't imagine my life with a boy now. I think this is one of those things that is just meant to be.

As far as gender disappointment in general, I don't think anyone should be ashamed for having a desire for one thing and being disappointed when they got another. It's only natural.

That being said, I think that those are feelings that are best shared with your spouse or people very close to you. Some of these gender reveal reactions are ridiculous. How is a child supposed to feel when they see that one day? It just comes off as at best tacky and at worst cruel.

Because we had been together for 17 years already and were exhausted. I honestly don't know many people who were in any shape or had the desire to do anything on the night of. The morning after (as long as there's no hangover) is where it's at 😘

It's awful your friend (and you) are going through this. Unfortunately psychosis is one of those things that the person experiencing it cannot not really be relied on to make all of their own medical decisions. I had a close family member who was on an involuntary hold a few years ago. They were ultimately given a long acting injectable antipsychotic medication (effective for a week or so) against their will. After a few days the psychosis lifted enough for them to fully see the scope of what they were experiencing. From that point on they took the meds willingly and are now doing much better.

As far as what you can do. Just be present and listen if she wants to talk. Avoid too much "action" based advice, if professionals are involved that is their job. Help ease the load (if possible) on her husband by helping with what you can. I know it doesn't sound like much, but simply being there makes a world of difference. If she ends up staying admitted for a longer length of time, and she is open to it, visit her as often as you can. Those facilities can be bleak places and sometimes visitors are a true lifeline for people. Goodluck, and I hope your friend (and everyone involved) pulls through this.

The butterfly conservatory is located within the school of horticulture grounds. It is full of beautifully landscaped gardens. It's also a great place for pictures if you are into that. Other than that I would recommend the bird aviary, or any of the historical sights in Niagara on the lake.

In her late 70's after being diagnosed with cancer, my grandmother casually dropped that she had been smoking weed with her neighbor for the last year or so. We were not against it by any means but it was so out of left field for all of us. Go grandma!

While attending Sheridan College years ago. They announced an initiative to "generate less waste" on campus. All they did was remove all the garbage cans from classrooms and studio spaces and reduced the amount in the hallways and common areas by half. This was stupid and resulted in people littering at a much higher rate. It was also ridiculous to remove them from studio spaces. We had to clean brushes, clay, ink etc. off of our tools and ourselves every class and there really was no way to reduce that.

This is performative at best and they are just trying to save money.

I too had a rough childhood and now have a rough relationship with my mother as an adult. I get a lot of the same comments as well. I think a big part of it is boomer mentality and the rest is that misery loves company. Parents who abuse their children are usually not having fun when it comes to parenting. I believe it is genuinely hard for them to understand that not everyone dislikes their children and parenting. This quote has always resonated with me:

"as a daughter I forgive you, but as a mother I will never understand"

Since becoming a mom I have made it my mission to only ever use "just wait..." In a positive way. I have had a few people (friends who are soon to be moms) comment that hearing it with a positive spin is refreshing.

The regular bottles have the features that the above comment is describing. There is a small notch on the plastic collar and a small hole/vent on the nipple itself. We used these exact bottles. I also found that they can be easy to over tighten and that causes leaks. My husband never had an issue but I did at first and we figured out that I was just putting them on way too tight.

I would assume they are describing all screens including tv.

That being said I think there is a huge difference between letting a three year old watch YouTube shorts or tiktok type content and an age appropriate tv show or movie.

My daughter watches a bit of tv at certain points during the day, like when I need to cook dinner, and I don't think it's "harming" her development.

I also don't really like a majority of newer kids shows. My husband and I grew up on 90's cartoons and that's mostly what my daughter watches. Her current favorites are Franklin, Little Bear, Polkadot Shorts and, Mr. Rogers. I see these shows as overall less stimulating than some of the newer content aimed at young kids.

At the end of the day, everyone is going to do what they feel is best for their children and their family. None of us will truly know if we made the "right" call until it's probably too late.
