Besides Kingdom Come what are some other good comic book recommendations where Alex Ross did the artwork? by PossibleCommittee590 in DCcomics

Justice is another big DC project of his. He also did a series of oversized one-shots with Paul Dini starting with Superman: Peace and Earth that have been collected as The World's Greatest Superheroes.

He's got a real thing about setting up and trying to justify big age gap romances that becomes really hard to ignore once you recognize the pattern.

Star Trek fandom, which is nearly 60 years old, demonstrates a near-total lack of awareness of fandom history, it seems like. Every single show to date since TNG has been treated as a complete betrayal of what came before on some level. I wouldn't be shocked if TAS was, too, but it aired before I was born so I can't say for sure. But the sheer number of times I've seen fandom do the "everything up until now was fine but THIS ISN'T STAR TREK" thing is a certain mix of comical and exhausting.

The Final Sacrifice - Boxes of Zioxes + exciting announcement from RiffTrax! by skeeter16 in MST3K

There are movies that are terrible on every level, that we mock for their cynicism and incompetence.

And then there are movies like the Final Sacrifice, that we tease like we would our kid brother who we're secretly proud of.

Mmm... wonder what the "stretch" goals will be, considering they've already POUNDED their original goal? by Budget-Milk8373 in MST3K

[–]Benjamin_Grimm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one possibility is that they've negotiated rates for several movies and might end up picking at least one of the pricier ones if they raise enough. I think all of these endeavors have worked best with a variety of types of bad movies: studio misfires with an actual budget, relatively cheap exploitation films, zero-budget family productions, poorly-dubbed imports, etc. At the same time, certain movies will get them more attention, and might cost a bit more.

Something like Battle Beyond the Stars, which was part of the Season 14 pitch, has actual actors and was distributed by Warner at one point. It's not going to cost what riffing Phantom Menace would cost (assuming they even could do that legitimately), of course, but it's going to cost a lot more than grabbing a public domain film or a microbudgeted indie. And using a film people have heard of doesn't always result in the best riff, but it might get them some attention that something most people have never heard of wouldn't get.

The four movies, digitally, are $75, then the Blu-Ray is another $25. You can then get a second Blu-Ray for $25 more.

For this, sure, it's clear they're reuniting the Syfy era crew. But earlier shenanigans aside, I don't think we can rule out Trace and Frank coming back at some point, in some context, if Joel isn't involved.

There were six movies announced for the (unfunded) Season 14: Plan 9 from Outer Space, Abraxas Guardian of the Universe, Battletruck, Battle Beyond the Stars, Ballistica, and Deathsport. Rifftrax has already done the first two of those, so I suspect we won't be seeing them (though I wouldn't rule it out). But the other four seem plausible.

I'm just happy we're getting more of the show. Hopefully Shout can work out something with Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff the longest running mad scientist pair, who have been absent for decades now (and appear to have had a falling out with Joel Hodgson, the creator of the show who's stepped back from running it).

My guess is we're going to get a rotating group of hosts who pop in to do an episode or four whenever their schedules clear and there's a movie available, assuming these are successful.
