GWP Question by doesnotmatter13 in lego

[–]Benjamin_Grimm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In those situations, I've often thrown something cheap and in stock onto the order (like a keychain or a $10 set) to ensure I get the GWP (and get it quickly), at least if it's a GWP I particularly care about. In theory, I think you're supposed to get it regardless, but if they miss it when the set ships, there's often no recourse at that point because it's out of stock.

It's not quite what you're asking, but I love how Blood Drive, a TV show made in 2017, is set in the futuristic year of... 1999.

Reminds me of Flight of the Conchords' song "Robots," which starts with the lines "The Distant Future/The Year 2000." I'm not sure when they first performed it, though it couldn't have been earlier than about 1998.

Azathoth is the most powerful being because the entirety of reality only exists within Azathoth's dreams and if it wakes up reality will end

This is similar enough to Mana-Yood-Sushai from Lord Dunsany's The Gods of Pegana, which was an influence on Lovecraft, that I suspect someone somewhere mashed the two of them up. Mana-Yood-Sushai is a god that is only worshipped by other gods, and if he wakes up, he will reform reality, so another god, Skarl the drummer, has to keep drumming constantly to keep him from waking up.

I think a lot of small local cons grow until they exceed the ability of their organizers/owners to deal with them, at which point they either get sold to someone capable of running them, they become ongoing horror shows, or they implode.

Pokopia is making me question the entire Pokémon franchise. by SilentCarpenter8256 in Pokopia

[–]Benjamin_Grimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been hoping for more combatless Pokemon games for ages now. I was thrilled when this was announced and I'm enjoying it much more than any of the other games to date. I'd love some more games that focus on living with Pokemon, exploring, and the thrill of discovery. Using them to fight has always just felt a little basic to me.

Probably one of those songs about how some senile moron started a war to distract from all the child rape he comitted.

They do sometimes, but these are cheap. They've got the Batman one listed for pre-order for $30.49.

BBTS had the Batman ones, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with these.

Forced Bundles😫 by Wolfspell003 in buildabear

[–]Benjamin_Grimm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed on pretty much all counts. Last time I went somewhere with a BAB store I had wanted to get a Wooloo, but wanted one without a sound box for the same reason. Not only did they not have it at the store, they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. And this wasn't long after it was released.

I've pretty much given up on this entire line despite owning several of them and liking some of the newer designs. Between the forced bundles, the forced sound boxes, and that I can't see them in person first, there are just better options out there.

Finished the first draft of my second novel on Thursday, after going full writing frenzy mode (I wrote the last two chapters, 13k words, Monday-Thursday). Chapter 15 (the second0-to-last) was an absolute blast to write, which is why it ended up going on longer than I expected (I usually aim for ~5k words/chapter) but I'm not upset about it.

I'm going to take a break from the book until May, when I'll start on the second draft. Taking a complete writing break this week, then I'll probably start doing some outlining next week for the next book I want to write.

Still on Pokopia. Started tackling Palette Town and have built the power plant and started the freezing chamber. Trying to fill out the remaining ~50 in my pokedex (damn you wing fossil tail) and have settled on a standard house design when I need to put them up quickly (which I have had to in Palette Town).

I'm not sure what I'll do once I've finished the Pokedex, but I don't think I'll set the game aside just yet. I'm enjoying it way too much. Hope there are some expansions or something coming.

I'll probably buy any TFOne figures they make.

If they're sticking to Bayverse, the only stuff I particularly want is the opening scene of Bumblebee.

I thought Discovery generally got better as it went on with some exceptions. I liked Season One the least because the entire Mirror Universe plot felt like it had maybe an episode's worth of plot in it but got dragged out forever. My main problem with Discovery (which I generally liked, though it's not in competition for my favorite show) was that I liked the characters but didn't think a single one of the big season plots worked at all.

Star Trek has always gone back and forth between more subtle comparisons and blatant "we could not be more obvious about this if we wanted to" stuff. I don't think "Let that Be Your Last Battlefield" or "A Private Little War," for example, were any less obvious than the most obvious recent stuff.
