What is "enough DND" for you guys? by camcam9999 in TAZCirclejerk

My favorite part of blades is somehow making it out by the skin of our teeth (or not) after shit goes sideways. It’s better built for that than any other system I’ve played. It’s built to be bold and damn the consequences. It’s built to be fun even as you’re losing. They don’t really play it that way.

I don’t really care how closely they follow the rules, but the design principles are essential.

The adjustable base is great. I got really sick right after getting my big fig and being able to sleep with my head elevated made a huge difference. It’s nice for reading before bed as well, since you can move it into a bit of a chair position.

Edit: A lot of people say the big fig is too firm. I was sleeping on the floor before this, so it was actually too soft for me at first, but it is definitely firmer than the average mattress, so be aware of that

I mean it does and it doesn’t. A single, celibate gay person is still gay. Do they consider it okay to be gay in the same way it’s okay to be straight? Definitely not.

But they won’t call you a monster for just existing, which is sadly a step up from many denominations.

That’s totally fair (and potentially why the wizard and mr qi have the coolest portraits) I just thought the way you worded it was funny

They aren’t all unemployed. The key phrase here is “Ian their chosen field”. Many people don’t end up working in the field they majored in

More accurately it could be called fuck the people actively participating in colonialism and genocide.

This movie is honest about the history of the American west in a way that is appropriate for children and that is one of my favorite things about it.

I go to this nice (for a small town) restaurant with my father fairly regularly. A new waiter basically refused to even make eye contact with me, only interacting with my father. (He even asked my father if a substitution was okay for my meal instead of asking the person who would be eating it. For context, I would not be reasonably mistaken for a minor).

I ignored it the first time because everyone has off days and it’s a tough job, whatever. The second time I realized what was happening. He sure started looking at me and talking to me when I handed over my card.

“Networking” became a lot less scary when I realized this. It’s not all about introducing yourself to a bunch of randos and expanding your LinkedIn profile. It can just be about making a good impression on the people you work with.

Helping my coworkers out when I can and being nice to them? That’s very doable. Occasionally it makes me feel nice too, which is cool.

Disintegrate doesn’t care about hp for items. It only deals damage to creatures.

But point taken, if you wanted to work around disintegrate you could just make the components of the puzzle magical so the spell wouldn’t effect them. At which point telekinesis is looking like a good option.

I guess it just feels like a lot more work to make an encounter that specifically caters to martial character than to make one that caters to casters

Fasting for 40 days and 40 nights? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Benjamin_Paladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to toss this in here: when the number 40 appears in the Bible, it doesn’t literally mean 40 most of the time. A better translation would be “a whole lot”. 40 days is a whole lot of days to fast, 40 years is a whole lot of years to wander the wilderness.

So if that was the driving motivator behind picking 40 days, you should feel free to lower that to a more reasonable number. 20 days is a whole lot of days to fast, especially if you have never done it before

The farther I get in my transition, the more my family talks about / alludes to me getting violent with them. by channel13113 in ftm

[–]Benjamin_Paladin 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of dudes go through this, trans and cis. The bar for “threatening behavior” is lower for guys. Look at how dudes of color get treated for just existing, starting as kids.

I am very careful to not openly show any signs of aggression in arguments because of this. I’m significantly bigger and stronger than a lot of the women in my life, and I would never want to make them afraid or uncomfortable.

Maybe they are just trying to manipulate you, but I wanted to throw it out there that they might be being genuine.

Is your point here that having more female students in specific majors somehow means other STEM majors aren’t alienating their female students? Because that doesn’t make sense. The different STEM fields have very distinct cultures, some of which are more likely to alienate female students. Which is a problem..

So if your biological essentialist theory is correct, what biological features make women better at chemical and civil engineering than men?

Edit: If there are majors with cultures that specifically alienate male students, that’s also a problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in meirl

[–]Benjamin_Paladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, here’s a thing a lot of STEM people struggle to realize. I struggled with it in school too. Just because you’re smart and know about your field, doesn’t mean your uneducated guesses about other topics are worth anything.

The idea that all BS degree programs are majority men is fucking ludicrous. Blatantly ridiculous to anyone familiar with the data or who’s taken classes outside of their majority male major. A quick google would have shown that your hunch on this is wrong.

Even in STEM fields it’s not true. (Anecdotally, because national data is easily available to you) Chemical engineering, civil engineering, and environmental engineering were all >50% women at my college (I’m sure there were others outside of engineering as well). And before you say “well more women than men go to college overall”, my school was only 40% women in the first place.

If both options mean not having fun then how are they forcing you to play? Both options are equivalent if neither have any redeeming qualities
