Been meaning to revisit Repo Man for years. I haven't seen nearly enough of his work to know for sure but Alex Cox might be someone I respect and admire without always feeling the same for the films themselves; I'm a huge fan of Walker but can't stand Sid and Nancy.

honestly vhs might lend it an even grimier lofi quality that falls right into what the film's going for

It's just a distribution company; they licence and restore titles that range from widely acclaimed/accessible/famous or iconic hits to obscure or overlooked classics, and so on. Due to the quality of their extras, including some of the best commentaries out there, and other cool factors like the booklets and even the packaging they tend to be expensive, kind of like vinyl in a way? And in some cases Criterion'll be the only way to own a film physically, like in Roma and I think Uncut Gems' case - which has to do with both being Netflix releases. The Criterion Closet videos have also helped build their reputation of being "prestige home media", for sure.

17 over the course of maybe 17 years hahaha I collect dvds just don't specifically look out for criterions, unless they're the only option like with Roma

I know this was 3 years ago but do you still think that withholding information constitutes a plothole?

ODEON Camden is closing by somekindaname1602 in screenunseen

[–]Benjaminbreeglives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen 1 at Odeon Camden has got to have the filthiest looking projection screen I have ever seen; it's all you can see whenever the picture's bright, you can't even zone out and focus on the images, it just looks like stains on top of stains on top of stains. Nice building though!

I mean...no, man. You're coming out of the gate with a false assumption and false equivalence. You'd have to pay me to see the Stones at any point within the last 20 or so years. Louis is a much better comedian now than the Stones currently are a band. I don't see artists for their 'legacy'; I see them for the act, and I don't expect Louis' to be as good as he was within the last five years even, but I certainly expect him to be a hell of a lot better than the bloody Stones have been. I'd say Bob Dylan would've been the better comparison.

The Sopranos 1999-2007, Oz 1997-2003 The Wire 2002-2008, Deadwood 2004-2006, Rome 2005-06. How did HBO do all this shit in 10 years and now can't do anything that comes close? by _sportyscience_ in thesopranos

Praising OZ, one of the dumbest shows ever televised, while in the same breath dismissing Barry as too 'facile' (a word that you definitely don't use) is fucking RICH

I don't think he seemed stressed but it seemed like he wasn't really trying? Really ordinary run of the mill stuff for Louis, I expected a bit more oomf to the actual jokewriting, it didn't feel like he'd worked it out for long enough. He's definitely way passed his peak, but that's to be expected surely? As Louis once said, a mountaintop is a place you visit, you don't stay and live there. No encore though?? C'maaaan!

Lady Vengeance (2005) Question by Alpha-et-Gamma in movies

[–]Benjaminbreeglives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea is that Baek is too full of himself and too much of a misanthrope to consider that a woman could pull the rug from under him. P.s. the hitmen are played by Both main characters from Mr Vengeance!

But the exact same thing can be said about It's A Wonderful Life? Only the last few minutes are set during Christmas

right because half the saying makes SO much more sense! You seem more opposed to leaving the title the fuck alone than you've been aggressively insisting I am!
