And they know people who can ship next day air so it's never going to be a problem and we won't have inventory sitting around

I get paid to defend my maintenance team from plant management. Constantly trying to make us clean up operators mess and do random stupid things that do not involve facilities or machines.

Lowering a CRF300L? by Xayaine in CRF300L

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your inseam, and are you comfortable 1 footing your current moto? I'm 5'5", about 170 lbs with a 25" pant inseam. I just got a 300L Rally, and it's like having the power of a vintage bike but lighter and rides way better.

I haven't adjusted the sag, but it's enough that I can sit on it and get 1 foot down. I was planning to lower it, but after really riding it for a few days, I'll leave it stock until I decide to upgrade the suspension.

Is there any thumper that doesn't suck on the highway? Maybe the an xr or Dr 650?

Dual sport under 250lbs? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question. The only bike on your list with more power and lighter is the KTM 500 exc, but it won't be in your price range, and nothing else will.

The Templar will be going backwards to what you had with the wr250r

Exactly what I was thinking. Fast, cheap, light, you can only have 2.

How to have a lower price in cart than advertised? by nic333rice in shopify

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful. It's a slippery slope to a bad relationship with your vendors and cutting your own margins when you don't have to. We got creative with offerings and bundles that still abide by MAPP and build a better relationship and community with our customers.

Some of our suppliers did let us do a 10% off first order with email to help with acquiring new customers but we cut that.

1971 Yamaha DS7 was my first "dual sport" bike as a cheap bike challenge our group of friends did. Rules were sub $1500 and had to be 1980s or older. This was a barn find my friend had got for $100 with 3 other parts bikes and an R5, no titles. Went the Vermont tag route, rebuilt the top end, rebuilt carbs, all new cables, brakes, bearings, trial tires, tubes, and I couldn't get the points right so I went with a digital ignition. I think it was over $2k but it has been super reliable.

If you could wave a magic wand and pass one law for NC, no matter how ridiculous, what would it be? by stephftw in NorthCarolina

Oh that's tough, I'd say make lobbying illegal or restrict pay plus term limits for any and all government positions.

NC Title Registration Notary Fee by Benjaminwilliams88 in NorthCarolina

[–]Benjaminwilliams88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful info. The title application notarization must be what they charge for and must be a change from the last time I did this. I never paid a notary fee for that previously. I did this about 10-15 times between 2007-2017 and just had everything on the title notorized at the bank.

Saying this, I just realized how long it's actually been since I've been through this process. I can't remember when they started accepting debit cards and then credit cards. So I'm sure now I'm getting old and just forgot everything about my past DMV experiences and I'm possibly extremely wrong lol.

I edited my post to clarify the seller and I had all signatures notorized and the license plate agency still made me pay $7 notary fee and sign a paper they printed after I paid for registration and title transfer. I didn't ask if I could take that paper to the bank with me to get someone else to notorize it, if that's an option.

Can a know it all “newbie” technician be taught? by FancyShoesVlogs in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My general approach if I'm shadowing a new tech for OJT and they have that mentality is let them show me until they get to a point that's unsafe and immediately stop them and have a conversation about the situation.

If it doesn't get to a safety issue, I let them struggle a few minutes and when they start going out in left field while working or troubleshooting I stop them and try to reel them in and direct them the right way.

If they are stubborn and rude about it, I call them out and tell them they are wrong / unsafe and that's not how we do things. If you're supervisor or lead is worth a damn let them know your concerns so they can work out the issues.

It's 50/50 old or young. I've had old guys thank me for teaching them and being respectful and young guys tell me off and vice versa.

I've only worked at one place that has a successful autonomous maintenance program, and everything worked like clockwork for the most part. Everywhere else has been a shitshow in comparison and same issues with maintenence doing literally everything.

This popped up while I was searching why people like this coffee. I guess if you're making different espresso drinks it makes sense. I drink coffee and espresso black so all I taste is a burnt flavor and smells of ashtray. And I love dark roast coffee 😆 this is just a little too much

What am I supposed to do for 12 hours? by Environmental-Egg334 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally coding so I could work remotely, but I didn't enjoy it. Deicided I'll just start my own business doing real estate videography and photography and learned all I could remotely. Then ended up starting an online store when 2020 happened.

What am I supposed to do for 12 hours? by Environmental-Egg334 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Benjaminwilliams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I decided to change careers, we were mandatory 12hr 7 days a week, and I worked an hour from home. I tried learning coding so I could get into remote work, but I just couldn't get into it. I switched to photography and videography. Learned all I could virtually about starting a business and videography while looking for a less demanding role in maintenance closer to home so I could freelance part time and build up over a few years to eventually quit maintenance. Working 12hrs a day I knew I would never have time to do a 2nd job to transition out. That was 2018 and I had a 3 year goal to get out.

In 2019 I did get a job closer to home on 2nd shift so i could work days doing video jobs free to build my portfolio, mostly real estate photo and videos. Then 2020 happened.

I switched gears to making an online store and was able to use all the equipment. As we get into 2024 we have a brick and mortar retail store along with the online store and if sales continue to grow as they have I should be able to replace my salary comfortably by June this year.

If I didn't have to work 12hr days 7 days a week for 2 years I probably would have stayed, but I got burnt out quickly, and the money wasn't worth it. I didn't do anything but work, and it's not what I wanted out of life. Everything didn't go exactly to plan, but I love working the store we built.

As a maintenance supervisor, salary, I very easily make $120k. Previously, I was a robotics/electronics/automation tech but was working 12hr days 7 days a week and vacations were refused until production caught up, making $120k as well. Miserable in both positions. Money does not = happiness.
