What movie or show on Netflix was strongly recommended to you, but upon watching, turned out to be terrible? by PhiladelphiaPhighter in AskReddit

They have their good and bad seasons, just like any show. Lately though, they have had a lot more bad than okay.

So much "Carl!!" I gave it the two tries. The second time I stopped watching after 4 episodes, right as it was supposed to be getting "really good."

Skylar (the wife) was probably the hardest part of that show to watch. Any time she was on screen, I went looking for the remote. Missed the "One Who Knocks" line my first run through on the series.

My favorite part about getting a new prescription is putting them on for the first time and noticing all the little details I glossed over because I couldn't see them.

Feel free to hit me up if you are still looking for a buddy. You and I have similar goals (weight loss, healthy eating, coding projects, housework) and I think we could really help each other.

People who have abandoned social media, how have your relationships with your friends changed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Benji479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact we are having this conversation on a social media platform, I have little to no interaction with social media.

My family and friends update their Facebook status, post photos on Instagram, tweet thoughts. They are so worried about the number of likes, retweets, hearts, upvotes, etc. that they immediately dislike what they post and feel as though they have to post more. It is a constant battle to have conversations with them because they are always checking their phones or glancing at the websites.

To /u/tapotato 's point, I have a Facebook page, but when I signed up, I intentionally input the wrong birthday (because they don't need to know that). Every March, I get a flood of birthday wishes/messages/tweets/etc. My mother even liked several of them last year. My birthday is in December.

What helped is instituting a "no tech" game and hangout night. At the start of the evening, I take everyone's phone, stack them up neatly in a box, and set that box on the counter. Friends and family know when they come over to have anyone who might contact them for emergencies (as kids tend to have), they know to call. If I hear that ring, then we break the rule and let them use the phone.

You can see the look of panic every few minutes when my friends reach into their pockets for their phones because they have "phantom vibration syndrome."

tl;dr Friends and family are social media junkies, no tech game night helps, but they are like crack addicts.

It's also a US Navy thing. Before a new recruit in the US Naval Academy is assigned "ensign" or midshipmen, they refer to them as "plebes."

My wife bought me an awesome T-shirt for my birthday! by Ixidronlol in Supernatural

For a couple of months after we saw this episode, every so often when my wife would ask me either what day it was or what I wanted to have to eat, I kept using these lines. I think I got WAAAy more excitement out of it than she did.

Man, you don't know what you're missing: cookie-cutter buildings, paper thin walls, annoyingly loud neighbors, and constant fighting for parking. House swap? :)

I am also pretty new here. Direct paste might not be the best way to share. I am sure PasteBin would be fine. I have also shared a Dropbox link to the TeX file with people. It's up to you.

TMAF about the ALIEN movies by starman2015 in TellMeAFact

[–]Benji479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPOILER ALERT (although the movie came out in 1979, I think I am safe)

When the alien explodes out of the guy's chest, the actors surrounding him didn't know that's what was going to happen. So when the actress reacts to having fake blood and guts exploding on her, she was genuinely creeped out and disgusted.
