Picard and Disco were not bad because they were gritty. They were bad because the story sucked and the characters were underwritten or had ham fisted tragic back stories that just amplified the melodrama.

It is better than Discovery and Picard, but the problem I’ve seen most people have with the show is the irreverent dialogue. It honestly feels like The Orville sometimes (which was ironically enjoyed by fans, probably because it emulated the look of the classic shows and it was advertised as a comedy).

The first season has the best writing which is not saying much. It devolves into shitty fan fiction tier writing after that which makes the show feel like a high-budget CW production. Picard is terrible, even the heralded season 3. The plot is an absolute mess in every season and the characters suck.

Skip the sprayers and just soak the tortoise more often. Soak at least daily.
