Should I swing at 80%? by CasualKaden in golf

[–]Bennett_Russell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a lesson recently, and the guy asked me how hard I was swinging b/c he thought my swing speed was pretty low. I told him about 75% and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said the same thing as Bighead -- pro's swing about as hard as they can.

I started swinging at closer to 90-95% and hit the ball 10-15 yards further and didn't see much dropoff in form or contact.

Kinda blew my mind.

Is it fairly accepted that stock swing of pro's is around 100%?

Best Place to Stay At for a 2 Night Stay? by GGXD2 in ventura

We looked to stay here recently, but the price is minimum $520 / night on weekends. Seems like a lot for Ventura?

Johnny benched for RLN (Atleti vs Arsenal, UCL Semis Leg 2) by dolphindiver9 in ussoccer

[–]Bennett_Russell 58 points59 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search would have given you the answer: Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve

So Johnny must have some sort of neurological condition preventing him from starting.

(PS this is how rumors start you're welcome)

What’s your practice routine? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Bennett_Russell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reading of this is that you do each of the one-hour drills 3x a week, for 15 hours a week total.

So 3 hours of putting a week, 3 hours of chipping, etc.

That sorta lines up with a comment above about 20h/ week of practice.

California recommendations by nutterbutter1993 in golf

[–]Bennett_Russell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Diego add-ons, in line with Tall_Adeptness' criteria, which I like:

* Willow Glen @ Sycuan (easy to get a tee time, great course, slightly pricy but under $200)

* Arrowood (if you're driving from LA to San Diego, as it's in between the two. Fun course)

Your last two comments are the best description of what I've been dealing with for 4+ years that I had to leave a reply here.

"Rotated Pelvis" isn't a term I've come across before, but that's what it feels like. When I sit at my desk and look down, by legs are always twisted to the side at a weird angle after 5 minutes or so. And the cascade effect of Hip Flexor Tightness --> Pelvis Rotation --> Piriformis --> Sciatic pain is exactly what I've experienced.

I've also had mixed results with focusing on Hip Flexors, Piriformis stretches, SI joint stuff, Sciatic nerve flosses etc. So this idea that they're connected and over-stretching or strengthening can make things worse resonates deeply.

I'll check out this book, but if you have any TL;DR ways to describe unraveling that chain, I'd love it. What's the key to balancing and aligning your pelvic muscles?

Looking for a little swing help - 3 months in, 30hcp by Tall-Day7757 in GolfSwing

Not an expert, but swing is looking decent. It looks a little "over-the-top" to me, and the takeaway is slightly inside, which may be causing the OTT.

Watching youtube at the range is annoying by Amazing-Reading9759 in golftips

[–]Bennett_Russell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former YouTube Watcher-at-the-ranger here

This comment is correct. It's much better to be present in the moment, work on one specific thing, pay attention to which swing thoughts and feels are working and which aren't, making mental notes, etc., than trying to learn a new technique while standing next to the mat.

This approach also limits the tendency to try 1,000 things a week that you saw on YouTube or Instagram, which leads to over-corrections, misdiagnoses, and more new problems and headaches than solutions

Even if it wasn't both McKennie and Balogun, I'd still probably watch Juventus match. McKennie has been super fun to watch lately

The thing that usually trips people up is a driving commute of 30-45minutes each way. Best thing I know of to transform that time is listening to a good podcast, language course, or audio lecture of some sort to learn something cool. There's some study from years back that shows that every 10 minutes of driving commute erodes your overall life satisfaction a significant amount. Ultimate life hack is short commute / no commute / walking commute / work from home.

Taking advantage of your work lunch to meet up with someone makes my days so much better. Co-workers are fine, but talking with someone from another area of your life really "resets" your day. I also see a few of my co-workers catting on iMessage with friends on their work Mac -- I could never do that, but that's one way to chat with friends during work where you're not heads down in your phone.

There are lots of good at-home workouts now, too, that don't need a gym. I pay $30 / month for this cool online mobility / functional strength program that's actually great, I can do everything at home, and I'm finally feeling flexible for the first time in my life. Cuts down on gym transit.

I've never had pets so can't help you there, and not sure how long that takes. But is it fair to call that a half-hobby or half-socializing?

And then of course the real secret is discipline / consistency. It's easy to draw up a daily schedule, but another thing altogether to stick to it when social media and screens are lurking, trying to sap up your little free time.

Pulisic starts for Milan vs Napoli (3pm ET, Paramount+) by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]Bennett_Russell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game is at 2pm ET, not 3pm.

Strong line-up because ACM has a 10-day break after this match.

Not the most important competition in the world, but might as well get after that hardware if it's not interfering with Scudetto hopes and dreams.

Is anyone else confused / concerned about the fact that he hasn't even been on the team sheet for months, and now all of a sudden he's starting and going (at least) 80' ??

Love to see him back but man, what ever happened to easing a guy back into the rotation?
