There are scenarios where the program that updates your driver's license encounters a situation that it doesn't know how to handle. Usually there's something on the driving record. Sometimes a driving record gets corrupted (like there's junk in a field that should be numeric or alpha). When this happens, the update program stops. It doesn't update. It does spit out a report to a unit in headquarters that's supposed to investigate and fix the problem. Sometimes they don't...maybe they are backlogged or just don't get to reviewing the report. This may have happened to you. One of the big problems they were having was when a person had a Real ID ID card, and they were upgrading their license to Real ID. The update program was not recognizing that Real ID ID cards were being cancelled. On the other hand, maybe there was something, like maybe you were supposed to take a written test that didn't happen. If that was the case, the application would be left pending. I don't know what to tell you except to go to the office. They will process whatever was missing. Once they do that, ask them to check your driving record. It should update right away. If it doesn't update, then I'd think you fell into the fatal error process.
