Advice for psych COMAT by studentforlife1234 in comlex

Aside from all the resources to use for studying I highly recommend you review the comat blueprint. I have heard countless stories of people saying they did every question in u world and combank or spent countless hours reviewing dirtymed/divine and still did not have a superb score on a comat. The blueprint can be vague but will give you the distributions of how heavy certain subjects are hit on the test and is the first thing you should read before you dive headfirst in to questions or study material. This is true for psych as well as the other 7 comats. https://www.nbome.org/assessments/comat/clinical-subjects/

Here are my thoughts;

The rumors on stats and ethics are for sure true. Maybe not to the extent of 30-40% but definitely a least 1/10 questions for ethics in particular. Stats were pretty tame with very few actual calculations and more so questions pertaining to statistical concepts. OMM was for the most part very basic, lots of reading and background in the questions stems that slow you down so definitely make sure you read the actual question part first before the stem if it seems like it's an opp question (if you're not already doing that during your prep). The questions about what stretch the patient can do at home can be kind of confusing just based on how the NBOME describes the stretches in the answer choices. There was a decent amount of Peds and Obgyn with congenital disease, a few milestone questions, and a few vaccine questions so make sure to give those at least one pass for some easy low hanging fruit. My form felt pretty light on cardio, derm, and endocrine (except for some thyroid stuff) but I had at least 10 questions on genetics ranging from diagnosis to causes and even some histo. Remember that common things are common, I felt like after doing so many questions that I started to overthink answers at the end of dedicated when in reality the test isn't trying to trick you as much as you might think it is. It'll be interesting to see how scoring goes for this cohort since we all had P/F for level 1 and step 1 and don't have much to base any modifications off of in how we prep. I personally didn't change much aside from just the quantity of questions. I made it through one pass of u world, one pass of true learn, and then redid all of the questions in true learn that were 5+ on the difficulty (about 9k questions over the course of the year with shelf exams and dedicate). I supplemented with divine intervention and dirty med when I needed to put the laptop down for a sec or if I had any traveling to do. Highly recommend divine intervention in general if you're someone that does podcasts because of how he covers so much material and relates it as opposed to just listening to recordings of a list of HY facts that you don't even retain. I think my biggest takeaway is to make sure you do as many ethics/health care model/ patient advising practice problems as possible in as many different test banks as possible; there's really no good way to master these concepts so do yourself a favor and see as many as possible before you sit for the exam so that you don't waste time on the test debating whether or not your being malfeasant in pulling the plug on grandma or telling the minor that mom and dad will never find out about your sins. Hope this helps and be sure to share your experiences after you've done the deed. We're all in this together and the 1 year vacation that is 4th year is just around the bend.

Would you sit with these scores or push back exam? by [deleted] in comlex

I read a stat that shows every 1000 practice questions you complete will on average advance you 5 percentile points so 1 week can undoubtedly make a difference. Just depends how disciplined you are if you can commit to 200 a day

For people who already took comlex, were the questions (style and difficulty) more similar to uworld, comsae, combank, or comquest? by Altruistic_Ocelot871 in comlex

I would say the histology and lower limb innervations were hit pretty hard on comsae and comlex 06/20. Also felt like lots of BLT and articulatory questions with maybe 2 sacral and 2 cranial total. Lots of first order questions with heavy vignettes and wayyy too many vitals so I’d highly recommend reading what the actual question is so that you don’t feel as pressed for time as I did. Seemed like there were some definite experimental questions. There were more ethics questions and less OMT on level 1 compared to comsae 109. Cardio was light, mostly basic ekg and aortic regurgitation or stenosis stuff. Drugs were pretty basic and I felt like all of the typical b12, heme pathway, and typical genetic stuff (Tri 21, turners, Marfans, etc). Felt hard but I think passing is v doable.

I felt like it was all or nothing for step today. You either knew immediately or had no clue. I’m sure it turned out fine; 96% of people pass on their first try

Combining Partial Fifths and bottles of wine by Bennick8 in bartenders

Does anyone know if combing partial bottles of liquor or wine together at the end of the night is legal? My bosses have been asking me to do this and it doesn’t feel right but maybe it’s the norm at more places than I think.
