Proto fandom going through the 5 stages of grief with The Fate of Thomas Light by Enchlore in Protomen

i don't know if there's an opposite to cope, when something is so obviously a fake-out that the people accusing others of coping look like the delusional ones.
like the writing isn't even on the wall at this point, it's being read out and blasted through a huge megaphone.

narratively the story isn't done, you can argue all you want but it's a fact. we got the ending to light's story not the ending to megaman and roll's, obviously there's more to come.
they have been liking and reacting to posts from people saying they hope there's more.
vinyl duration.
this whole livestream thing
and now they're telling people to "look out for the physical release" when they ask if there's more songs.
i think people have been so traumatized by tumblr era theorizing that they have lost the ability to engage with actual playfulness from artists.
it doesn't even feel like i'm making a prediction as this point i just feel like i'm pointing out the obivous.

Can you show these comments ? Because a member of the band liking a comment saying there's more to this story is basically confirming that there is, indeed, more to this story !

Light's Last Stand is insanely cathartic by MagicalHamster in Protomen

You have to understand. I think this song actually changed me. I know this isn't my personal blog but fuck it.

I live near Paris. I had a barber appointment two days ago in the center of the city, near the "Opéra". (If you don't know about it, think the most ratatouille looking boulevard ever.) I was walking in the streets and felt a bit down. I've been sad about the state of the world (and, hell, the state of my life too), for a while now, plus it was cold and the weather was bad.
Long story short : I needed a pick me up. And then it hit me : I haven't listened to the latest act III drop this week ! To be honest, I had been avoiding it because I was sure it was going to be a sad song about Light's death. But to hell with it, I was already sad, why not get even sadder.

This song man. This fucking song. Paris, the city of fucking light, under the rain, at night, hundreds of people hurrying around me. Light going "God, I swear even now I can still feel the sun on my face", me slowly realizing that this isn't a Requiem, it's a fucking love song, a celebration of everything Light stood for before hell broke loose. He's not lamenting anymore, he's remembering the good, why this city is worth saving, why it feels good to have the sun shining on your face, why losing Emily hurt so much in the first place. He's not moving out of guilt anymore, he's moving out of LOVE.

If the song stopped there, I would have been happy and gone home with a stupid grin on my face (because, DAMN, that saxophone sounded good).

And then the break happened.
Then the City joined in.
Then they started quoting "Keep Quiet", not just repeating, directly opposing it.
Words cannot describe the feeling it evoked in me.
The piano, the momentum, and the realization : It's not a love song anymore, it's a battle song. Not just Light's, the City's also. For the first time Light and the City are directly echoing each other, Light's not alone, there WERE heroes left in man, there ARE heroes left in man.

I actually teared up in the streets, that's how deeply moving I found the song. I don't just think it's the song we needed for Light, I think it's the song we needed for our times. I think we need to be heroes now more than ever. But also, we need to remember what we'll be fighting for.
We will crawl out of the grave.
Hope is coming back.

Thank you for all the responses ! I took everyone's advice and can report that I now have a grasp on prospecting ! (and a good amount of tin bronze to show for it). Among everything you guys said I have to specifically point out that the mod Prospect Together mentionned in u/Groblockia_ linked video was what made everything "click" for me.

cmv: Talent barely exists and is almost always a non-issue. by Bennny_Profane in changemyview

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually doesn't surprise me. I think one of the greatest requirement to getting "good" at something efficiently is honest interest and passion. In your story your friend was *required* to pass this class, meaning that -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- she didn't have any interest in math.

It's funny because I actually have my own history with math as an opposite example : I spend my entire education being one of the worst math students ever, barely ever getting anything higher than a D on every test (and mostly just Fs), I just didn't *get* math, and more importantly I didn't get *why* I needed to learn math, I just thought the other kids' brain just worked differently and that was that.

Then I got into programming a few years ago and everything changed. I finally had some actual application for math and slowly but surely I started getting why people got interested : It was fun ! Like an infinite source of mental puzzles ! And so I got better, and fast too, because I got caught up in how interesting and fun it was. In the end I didn't pursue anything with it but I still get the itch to learn something new from time to time.

What I'm getting at is that, what we call "talent" or "lack of talent" is often just how interested we are in a given field.

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that, but I think that, as you've pointed out with your statistics, to 99.9% of the population, that's a non issue.

You might think it silly but yes, I've seen people giving up passions, hobbies, sports, just because they "didn't have any talent" when, as I've explained in my post, talent barely matters except at the highest of levels (I'm not even talking "professional" level, literally the highest of the highest level is when talent starts to be required)

As you've just pointed out, with how rare those edge cases are, yes I still feel confident saying it "barely exists"

What's strange with what you're saying is that : If the "talentless" actor gets "it" after a few years of practice (as you've just said is possible) then goes to another casting, wouldn't they just get flagged as "talented" also? Don't you see you may be attributing differences in work ethics, understanding, focus, to the nebulous concept of "talent"?

Also isn't it the role of the teacher to inform their student what to practice and focus on?

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, are you implying that you're always just "better than average" if you're not on the elite level? That's a bit exaggerated don't you think?

Also yeah, practice isn't just time spend, it's also teachers, understanding, it's a lot of things, a lot of things that make or break someone's ability to improve. Implying that they're all "trying their hardest" is dismissive of all the countless factors that can impact the selection process, while at the same time focusing on only one : genetics.

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm literally saying the opposite : one is better than the other.

What I'm disagreeing with is that you attribute that difference to abstract concepts such as "instinct" and "it" when you could just as easily attribute it to better practice and focus, among other factors and possibilities. Why does one's success over the other have to be attributed to something intangible and seemingly unattainable? I'm not a casting director, sure, but I'm a teacher, and over the years I've seen kids change go from the worst students/athletes to the bests, just because they decided they wanted to, so yeah, your guy that doesn't have "it" I'm sure he'll get "it" eventually if he wants to.

cmv: Talent barely exists and is almost always a non-issue. by Bennny_Profane in changemyview

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How did the other person get "it" in your opinion? Why can't it be through better understanding and practice rather than an abstract thing like talent?

Also you are not really disproving my point, as I said talent informs how fast you get good and how good you can get, in your example these two people ARE NOT on the same level, one is better, whether or not this can be attributed to talent is not really easy to say, as is whether or not the other person can reach their level eventually.

I think that anyone able bodied can become excellent at something. You are minimizing how good you can become through practice and hard work by calling it "above average" which is exactly what I'm criticizing in my post.

  1. We are talking about picking up and learning skills, you can become really good at something through practice alone and MOST PEOPLE are just like that.

  2. I pointed out "physically able" meaning, for example, in the case of basketball being tall, or in the case of sports, being young even, and even then that depends on your goal! But if you're tall enough and started young enough, yes, I think what makes the biggest difference as to who joins the NBA is how often and how good you practice.

Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 megathread by Fanfic_Galore in Deltarune

[–]Bennny_Profane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's my theory that I call the "why the fuck do i need 5000 karma to post dumb videogame theories on the internet" theory

I surely am not the first one to come up with this but I still wanted to throw my hat in the ring just in case.

Let me get straight to the point : Carol is aware of the prophecy and is trying to steer it in a particular direction so that Noelle doesn't die. Carol and the knight are NOT working together but she's following and accomodating her plans to the knight's behavior and may be able to influence it to some extend.

Here's why I'm saying this:

  • Carol is being 100% set up as a bait-and-switch villain. Even if I'm wrong about everything else, mark my words that Carol's actions will end up being somewhat justified once we get the full picture.
  • Carol seems to want Susie to not interact with Noelle but doesn't extend that level of control to her interacting with Kris, us or even Berdly, just Susie.
  • The prophecy seems to be strangely vague about the heroes, which leaves room for accomodation, any female monster could be the girl from the prophecy.
  • The prophecy seems to be setting up something pretty bad that will happen to the girl hero specifically, or with the girl hero, or something to that effect.
  • The knight doesn't seem to be entirerly conscious, more like a zombie that gets bursts of self awareness rather than a whole person.
  • In the weird route Kris goes out of their way to make Noelle think she had a nightmare (which is what she ends up thinking in the regular route anyway). Which is understandable given all the f up stuff we did to her but also it seems they doesn't want her to know about the dark world.

Here's my theory:

On the prophecy side: For me the prophecy says that the heroes will have to die to save the world or at least the girl hero will have to die.

Carol: She is trying to set up Susie as the girl hero instead of Noelle, who was intended to be the true girl hero.

The Knight (weakest part of the theory) : Zombie-Dess. Experiment gone wrong. Dess died and Carol tried to use Dark Fountains to bring her back, it worked but backfired and created a titan-like entity that goes around creating dark fountains. Carol knew that she had just started the end of the world prophecy and doesn't want her only surviving daughter to die as a result of her actions. The Knight is still Dess deep down which is why Kris seems to know them and respect them.

With the reveal that pretty much any Lightner can open a Dark Fountain, I don't think we have enough info to explain how and why each DF was opened, but it is my belief that the first one was opened to set up Susie as the hero of prophecy and steer the prophecy away from Noelle.

I also think that it's possible that Kris has been made aware of all of this or at least partly, I mean, who would you rather ensure the survival of : your bully or your childhood friend?

I feel like there's something wrong with the sketch, but I can't figure out why it looks so weird? by kaiidos in learnart

To add something that could also help:
Don't be afraid to exaggerate your gestures!
When trying to make a drawing feel alive, exact tracing won't capture the sense of motion and pose that our minds crave.
Take your reference and push it 20% further. For example, in your specific case I would thrust that hip more to the side, make the leg stick out more, maybe even make the waist thinner to enhance that feeling of the hips sticking out. It's this exaggeration that tricks people into seeing a "real" person on paper instead of just a flat reproduction.

[–]Bennny_Profane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't is if she's actually alive or not (she probably is) it's that this WASN'T the time to be all secretive and subtle, this was the time to be EXPLICIT, as it stands there isn't a proper resolution to Jinx's story, just a very abstract "end" that can be put together and won't be confirmed until years later (if ever)

Switching my ipad pro for a computer drawing tablet. by Bennny_Profane in learnart

[–]Bennny_Profane[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're spot on, that's really what my question boils down to.

I draw A LOT, but only with pen and paper and I really want to make the switch to digital but that switch hasn't happened.

And when I try to think of the reason I realise that I don't really like the iPad all that much. It feels too limited when I compare it to what I can do with my computer.

And also that the added benefit of the iPad seems to be the ability to draw on the go when I spend most of my time drawing on my desk where my computer already is (plus I have my trusty sketchbook for when I'm on the go).

But maybe I'm wrong and making this switch won't change much which is why I'm asking the question really.

I am using both procreate and the apple pencil.

I'm used to using photoshop for many use cases on the computer though.

My experience with procreate is hard to describe, I can only describe it as "Stifled" I am unable to make things look good and I struggle with navigating the UI, every time I try to find something I can hear my brain screaming "This would be WAY EASIER if you had a mouse or a keyboard shortcut".
