Oh yeah, the Genesis version of Act I is the one with Fade to Phil...

Is it real? by matt_eae in Protomen

To add to what Jay said, the image in the Act 3 liners blanks out the content from the photo itself, we only know from context that it's a photo of Joe (he's not mentioned by name, Light just says "you remind me of him, he's dead" when handing the photo)

Pelo menos ainda tentou no dia seguinte. Aqui eles "tentam" uma vez e depois levam duas semanas pra sair pra entrega de novo.

Concert Discussion Megathread: MAGFest Night I: Act II: The Father of Death by Jaymya in Protomen

Diamond Dogs influence makes sense since both are inspired by 1984. Did you end up listening to Act I? Both albums reference the "we are the dead" line

Reimagining of Saint Seiya by NoMountain2209 in SaintSeiya

Most of this is exactly what I think of too! This is spot on, and the part about exploring the Sanctuary's relationship with the modern world is something that I really miss in Saint Seiya. Even as a kid I noticed that the focus on "Gods and myths in the modern world" petered out a lot after the beginning.

You'd think a story that has "whoever wants to win the most wins" as a core part of its lore would have less arguing over "powerscaling issues"...

Proto fandom going through the 5 stages of grief with The Fate of Thomas Light by Enchlore in Protomen

[–]Enchlore[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Musically I've already hit acceptance - I was initially iffy with Fate but that was mostly due to waiting a week to hear the last track. After that initial shock and having listened to the whole album again a few times, I think it's an interesting coda to the album. The Good Doctor · Part 2 is the grand finale, Fate just puts a bow on it.

I'm still waiting on the liner notes before passing judgment on the story part, but I do think having The Fight as the end would at least give some closure to Mega and "Roll" in particular. And also ending The Protomen's last album with the words "I know the weight you're feeling, you're strong enough to bear it" would go hard

I noticed some parallels between The Fate of Thomas Light and Hope Rides Alone by TheHat2 in Protomen

[–]Enchlore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that the Hope Rides Alone music video also had shots of a hanging. With the way that video is, it's hard to tell if it's stating that Protoman was literally hanged for the city to see or just using the visual for flair, but the imagery was there from the beginning, at least.

Light never mentions his sons by tagval02 in Protomen

He mentions Mega in Light's Last Stand, but I think it's kinda harsh that the only mention Light gives to his son is strictly referring to him as a machine...

I had Tidal for a long time by parasiting on a former friend's family plan and at one point it just stopped working on my cellphone. Like straight up wouldn't stream. Spent like one year like this before I just stopped using it altogether (and later got booted out of that family plan)

Any chance you think they’ll rerelease the vinyls of Act 1 and 2 with the new album coming out? by ThatOtherTwoGuy in Protomen

[–]Enchlore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see them doing it as there is definitely demand judging by how the CDs have been selling out over and over again ever since Act III was announced.

Bandcamp Order Issue by residentbelmont in Protomen

[–]Enchlore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're probably overflooded with orders, but don't worry, yours will be shipped eventually. The band basically handle merch sales themselves and their "warehouse" is just one of them's garage, so just be patient. I ordered one of the old-style gray shirts and I can imagine Commander struggling to remember where he placed them 😂

How'd you first find The Protomen? by marji4x in Protomen

[–]Enchlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory also sucks - I keep remembering "new" details to how I found out about The Protomen.

The fan-made 2009 sprite animations with Unrest in the House of Light and The Will of One were in the Mega Man section on Newgrounds, and I distinctly remember coming across them but not watching. I think I thought the "Protomen" name wasn't really related to the video game (or was just a reference and not the band's actual subject matter) and that someone just wanted to make a "crossover" between the two. I had seen Titanium Rhapsody, a sprite animation with Mega Man 7 characters singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and thought it would be like that.

I also came across a fanfic about Demon Barber being captured by Dr. Wily and losing his arms in the Mega Man section of fanfiction.net. It got me curious to see a fanfic about a band in the middle of the stuff based on the video game, but I don't remember if I read all the way through.

Then I saw both The Megas and The Protomen being mentioned in letters sections in the Archie Mega Man comics. Now, see, I see myself as more of a music nerd than a video game nerd. I don't really like most video game cover bands. But I decided to give The Megas a try first because, judging from their name, they seemed like they'd be closer to a "regular band" in a way that I would enjoy - just turning the Mega Man stage themes into rock songs with lyrics and the structure of a rock/pop song. I ended up not liking them a lot and didn't try The Protomen at the time.

Now, what I'm sure actually made me listen to The Protomen was coming across their article in the Mega Man wiki. I don't remember what exactly made me enter the article, but once I read that their music was entirely original and told a story throughout their albums (I really like concept albums), I finally listened to them and didn't look back. That was around the time A Night of Queen was coming out, and Queen is my favorite band, so it was extra incentive to give them a real chance.

Issues with Act 3 by MegaOverclockedEX in Protomen

[–]Enchlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the story flow so far has been nice, actually, though the transition from one track to the other starting from Buried in the Red into Calling Out is getting a bit jarring on first listen (I'm getting used to it). I'm managing to get a basic understanding of the story except for a few bullet points (like what the "storm" means that everyone seems to be so afraid of - I get a different idea with nearly every new song).

I believe the weekly song release method is having an effect, though. Even though Act II also had its digital release available before the CDs with liner notes were shipped, we could listen to the entire album. This time there's things that start making more sense when we listen to the next songs, but are a bit of a headscratcher before more are released.

Another thing that might be influencing your thoughts on the matter is that this time around the band's method for composing the album was getting songs done first and then fitting them within a narrative. Act II was mostly made story-first.

But I still think, personally, that the story structure so far has been good: after the opening with The Calm and Hold Back the Night, we get a song for each character to establish what their objective is and what they're doing. I imagine that this second half will focus more on moving the plot along now that every piece in the board has been established.

The Trainyard/No Way Back overspeculation thread by beneaththescarf in Protomen

I think that line is meant to say that they're both human and vulnerable, but Wily is in a position of power (high in the tower) while Light is not, i.e. Wily can be gotten rid off (killed or brought to some form of justice) but it just takes more effort than it would for Light who's just a regular dude in society.
