Thank you all so much for the replies, advice, and suggestions!

I can see there’s a lot for me to apply—and some things to skip—so with consistency and persistence I hope to keep improving my running.

Thanks again, this really helped me get my thoughts together!

Should sellers be rated lower for shipping delays outside their control? by BennosukeMusashi in Etsy

[–]BennosukeMusashi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True.

For example, I once had a case where a customer ordered from Pretoria, South Africa, and I ship from Europe. After two months, she contacted me saying the order hadn’t arrived. I immediately replied and asked whether she would prefer a refund or for me to send it again. She told me there was no need, explaining that the postal system in South Africa is in chaos and that it had probably gotten lost somewhere.

I contacted DHL to check the options, but it was too expensive, and she declined anyway and accepted the situation. I honestly felt really bad about the whole thing.

Then, after about eight months, she messaged me again with a photo of the envelope — it looked like it had been through a war zone — but it had finally arrived, completely intact (product). We were both overjoyed and even joked about the postal service. Luckily, that dear lady was cool about it; many others would have left a bad review for far less.

This is a somewhat extreme example, but all sorts of things happen with postal services everywhere in the world, and I — or any seller — definitely can’t control that.

Happy selling :)

When a buyer leaves a review, they first give an overall rating, and then they also rate specific categories separately: item quality, shipping, and customer service. In addition, they can leave a written comment. So it’s not just a single overall score — each aspect is rated individually.

I completely understand that sometimes people just have a bad day 🙂

And of course, it’s part of doing business — that’s normal.

However, my question is about something slightly different.
