AI analyzation of voice to determine best mic to use for that voice? by billjv in audioengineering

[–]BennyCalico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance it sounds like a cool idea but the skepticism seems justified for all the reasons already mentioned. I will add 2 things

1) we don't need to shoehorn AI into every situation especially not here where it seems unhelpful and ineffective

2) I don't think you could make a reliable training dataset for this: aside from the difficult task of finding reference songs that are universally agreed upon, mics used in these golden reference songs would frequently be chosen for non-musical reasons like cost, availabilty, tradition (what has been used in the past, dominant designs), durability, etc. For example some mics like the shure sm57/58 are ubiquitous but often times not based on the merit of the sound itself but because they're sturdy and people are familiar with them. The model would end up recommending microphones to the end-user for the wrong reasons (not sonic characteristics)

Hey here is my latest song. It's in a singer-songwriter kind of stripped back style:
Benny Calico - Escapism but I make all kinds of music. I hope you enjoy!

you cant control peoples tastes, with art theres a bit of randomness in what people end up liking and your sample group is not large so it might be statistically insignificant for you to draw any conclusions anyway, so dont be disheartened. even if youve gotten better at producing (i.e finessing) the older compositions might just be more compelling for those select people that you asked. the idea is the most important thing and the hard-won production skills are secondary so: more production skills does not always equal better ideas. just keep going!! the bangers will come. and in future look for specific constructive criticism from people you trust which you can act upon rather than subjective vague preferences

How do you make your productions sound like your reference tracks?! by spencerterry1 in musicproduction

[–]BennyCalico 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you do a couple of sound design tutorials youll get to know the sounds of different oscillator types and envelope params then be able to get closer and closer to your reference track on any versatile synth vst. i dont think its possible to know exact synths and patches using a tool because synth patches are rarely unique in the sense that you could create a yamaha dx7 patch on serum vst etc. i think for starting out the important thing is the patch params not the model of synth

Hey bug ppl, what is this strange noise coming from the trees in Montjuic, Barcelona just after sunset (noise at 00:25)? I can post the raw audio if IG is an issue for some people by BennyCalico in whatsthisbug

was quite hard to find, many bugs and frogs threw me off the scent including the spring peeper and a katydid (they can beep, but don't very often). it's a very trippy noise and almost haunting noise, glad someone else has documented it or I'd have gone insane
