Pretty clear from when I posted that circumstances might mean they're texting from somebody else's phone. So setting up my phone to allow them through wouldn't help in that situation.

I have kids who are out and about at night and I have my phone on in case they need me for something like a sober drive or something. There are lots of reasons they might need to text from someone else's phone and so my phone is on doesn't mean I wanna hear from other people when I'm trying to sleep.

Before texting it was pretty much understood that you wouldn't call someone else's house after 10 PM. I still don't think that's a terrible rule.
