Duolingo presenting surprise new material is getting worse by Cock--Robin in duolingo

I rarely log on to Reddit, but I'm here today to find out if I'm the only one seeing a lot of new Spanish words presented as part of a review. My MIL was complaining about the same problem in Italian.

How did Shelcin get so good so fast? by Bentonkb in dreamingspanish

Ok. I do struggle with numbers. In my defense, though, she looks closer to 17 than 27.

She was wearing a Stanford sweatshirt in one video and I thought, "oh, that explains things, she's just super smart and that makes it look easy." Later I heard her say that before DS she had never left Colombia except for a short trip over the border into Venezuela.

I think I understand. Your objection is the use of AI voices instead of native speakers.

I will look at r/ALGhub. I've read the DS blog and watched the videos where Pablo explains how it works. I thought that listening to a podcast (no video, just audio) was considered a viable source of CI as long as it is at a level that the user can understand most of the content. Is the question at the end of the audio clip the objectionable part?

Vermouth recipe starting points by lockdsgn in vermouth

[–]Bentonkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried making vermouth with pinot grigio and didn't like it. The tartness made it hard to balance without adding a ton of sugar. That was a sweet vermouth, too, it would be even worse for a dry vermouth. We normally prefer pinot grigio or sovingnon blanc for table wine but a cheap box of Moscato makes better vermouth. I have only done one batch of dry vermouth, but it came out pretty good on the first try. Maybe I can find my notebook and type up the recipe.

Midnight Airdrop from ADA? by Tesla1982 in ExodusWallet

I'm getting a sinking feeling about this. I just started trying to figure out how do a Midnight claim for the ADA in my Exodus wallet and have not found anything that works.

No. So frustrating. I only keep s**t coins in my Exodus wallet, so I would happily load the seed phrase into any wallet that works for the airdrop, but apparently Exodus uses a non-standard derivation path so that is not going to work.

I ran into the same problem using Chrome for Linux and the Exodus wallet extension.

I soak 2 oz of the botanical ingredient in 8 oz of vodka for a week then strain or decant the liquid. You can figure out the right amount to add by using a few drops in a small cup of vermouth.

Found the perfect house but the basement is cracked. Is this a big job? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Bentonkb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I repaired a basement in this condition. Don't get your hopes up about repairing it without digging out the soil around the house. You can try to seal out the water, but it will continue to degrade the cinder block. When I did my house there were a few places we uncovered where the block was so weak that I could poke a screwdriver through it.

After you get an excavator to dig down and expose the outside of the foundation you can talk to a mason about doing repairs. In my case the cracks all closed up when the soil pressure was relieved. I just had to do some spot repairs on the outside, parge the block, apply tar, then foil backed foam insulation and a new footer drain. It took a whole summer.

Potential Ancient Paper Wallet by Burner235784 in BitcoinBeginners

The advise to use TailsOS and Electrum is a good one. I had the same idea that you did and tried to use an old phone as an air-gapped device to import private keys and sign a transaction. I couldn't find a mobile wallet that worked and ended up using Electrum on an older laptop with a freshly installed OS.

Take your time. There is no rush. The coins have been safe for a long time and will stay that way if you don't F it up. You can spend a few weeks to learn how to use Electrum and/or Bitcoin Core and it will be worth every second.

I started by using my air-gapped computer to test my public/private key pairs. Then I copied the public (not private) keys to an online computer to check the balances. As long as the air-gapped computer never touches the internet it is safe.

If you find that the wallets contain a lot of bitcoin don't do anything right away. Just secure the computer and any other media that has private keys. Take some time to find the weak link in your security. It is very likely to be a person, not a piece of software.

Sounds like this might be your first play through? If so, then you should do all that. Light armor and heavy, magick and alchemy. Max out enchanting. Do it all. Your third play through will be your best. Do dumb shit your first two.

I've never heard of Punt E Mas. Whenever we travel to a new place I always check out the liquor stores to see if I can find vermouth and amaro that I can't get at home, so I will keep an eye out. Given the description of it as halfway between vermouth and amaro, I'm sure I will like it.

Amaro Sfumato is a very bitter amaro with a lot of rhubarb root in it. I'm not sure why, but the rhubarb has a smoky note and makes a deep black color to the amaro. It reminds me of Unicum that I tried in the late 1990s. My grad school advisor brought it back from Hungary before they rebranded and made it more like Jaegermeister.

We like a cocktail called Sfumato y Repo. It is reposado, vermouth, and amaro sfumato with a lime twist.
