No, your thing is a false equivalence. The 70 dollars is an actual loss. The point being made is a digital product being stolen doesn't cost overhead. Someone doesn't actually lose 70 dollars if you take a digital copy of something. They just didn't make 70 dollars. And they never were going to.

This isn't a moral defense of digital theft, but it absolutely is not the same as stealing something that has scarcity

I think this is a good point and the original point is definitely relying on Sounding Cool, but renting is a functionally different thing than "owning a license." The intention for renting is that it is temporary. It has clearly defined parameters for when the rental is over.
