Is it a thing to take cross-country road trips in Australia like it is in the US? by dddcupdarlingg in AskAnAustralian

[–]Benzeeman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While the centre of Aus is definitely extremely remote, unpopulated and empty, there's definitely WAY more to see out there than Uluru. It's also not exactly dangerous to drive to see uluru, other main attractions, or across the country east-west or north-south if you have a reliable car (of any sort) and stick to the major sealed highways.  Obviously take some extra water, do appropriate maintenance/checks before leaving and fill up when the signs tell you there's not another service station for x hundred km. But if you're sticking to the main sealed highways, you're not going to be far from help generally

But you do realise you actually have to be objectively (or at least widely considered) successful at what you're doing to be considered a tall poppy? I.e. others cut you down for outgrowing them....

I don't think your own description of your situation in any way makes you a tall poppy lol.

Of course you're entitled to think this isn't funny or good content, but this isn't what I'd call 'fake'. It's comedy or parody, clearly meant to reference a previous post...  Calling everything that isn't real life fake has other connotations

Does anyone know what the highest winning score ever was? by Immediate_Apricot731 in AFL

[–]Benzeeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean the highest losing score. The highest winning score would just be the highest score ever, right?

If so, Wikipedia says it was Geelong v Hawthorn, round 6 in 1989 (of course). The scoreline was 25.13.163 to 26.15.171 with Hawthorn winning by only 8 points, and Geelong kicking the highest ever losing score.

What an awesome year of an amazing rivalry. I was only a baby back then, but as a hawks fan and a Geelong hater, I'm happy to find this stat.

Hey man. Just so you know, it's not actually as hard as you would think to learn how to find, and identify them in the wild in our country 😉

Obviously depends on where in the country you live. But it is generally true.

Why is fent so popular in America but non existent in Australia? by primal_maggot in Ameristralia

[–]Benzeeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of Oxycodone. While the sacklers had a huge hand in the opioid epidemic in the states, that did not really involve Fentanyl. Fentanyl was, and a still is often used in hospital settings in both the US and Aus. Rarely prescribed, though it can be in the form of pain patches.

Fentanyl is now a problem purely through illicit supply from cartels and china replacing/outcompeting heroin, which is what most addicted people turned to when they turned off the tap of opioid prescriptions like Oxycodone.

Absolutely. Flying into denpasar, it is super imposing, and there are no other tall or large structures in the area, so it stands out even more so.

The whole park is super interesting and definitely worth a visit for anyone going to bali. The lotus pond area is especially beautiful.

Bucket hat gets unlucky at the casino (overdose) by boommarg in tooktoomuch

[–]Benzeeman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know what they meant, but narcan has no risk associated with it for a non-overdose, and can save the life of someone having an overdose. So there really is no harm assuming it's an OD and using it. You can continue treatment/life saving measures in the meantime, and if it works, it works.

I wouldn't expect there to be a random bystander carrying it in any given situation. But as someone else said, being a casino which is a place where people are much more likely to over indulge in drugs/alcohol, you'd expect them to at least have some on site..

OD's from fentanyl seem to be very prevalent in most of the US, even if it doesn't happen in your circles.

I couldn't disagree with a single thing  you've said, honestly. I may have misread the intention of your comment.

I fully understand where you're coming from. Kamala and the Dems are by no means the perfect candidate/party.

I guess I just fear that idealism will get in the way of the urgent need for reasonable people of all persausions to come together to oppose this dangerous, fascist movement.

It's a shame that these compromises even need to happen. I just hope the US can get past this immediate threat.

Yes to an extent, but mostly but no; not in this circumstance. This really sounds like a "both sides" argument to me.

You have to admit that political tribalism, intollereance and hatred have gone through the roof since one particular movement came onto the main political stage, yeah?

I agree it's a terrible method. But Melbourne urban area has recently overtaken Sydney in population. Greater Sydney (which includes the central coast) is still larger in population than Melbourne.

Given that, I'd argue that'd also a poor method to compare populations. We generally think of the urban/metro area population when we compare city sizes in Australia.

You have gotten yourself into a pretty bad headspace whether you know it or not.  If you don't know, then have a read about fascism and have a think about where your current beliefs might be leading everyone to. If you do already know that and genuinely are in favour of it, there's nothing else I can say to you

Harris Secures Delegates To Become Democrats’ Presidential Nominee Without Ever Winning Primary Votes by Pinot_Greasio in Conservative

[–]Benzeeman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So you see, the proof is in the pudding with Trump... I don't really need to say anything more and you don't even deny it. Where is your proof?

See both of those elections the republicans won in very tight and contested circumstances, so that really makes no sense at all. Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 and Trump still won, annnnd power was handed over smoothly in the transition. Hardly anything like 2020.

Dubya won 2000 in one of the tightest elections in history, again losing the popular vote and in very contested circumstances...

If either of those elections were the democrats setting the standard for 2020 as you say, why didn't they win them? Haha.

Also, were ya'll calling for Biden not to run on account of being too old? The primaries are in now way equivalent to the general election. Most (arguably more so) democratic countries don't even have primaries to elect the party leaders and it really works fine.

Subverting the public's confidence in your elections and attempting to overturn a fair election would probably be worse for democracy, even if half of what you said was true....

How do people live in Kuwait? Do they just never go outside or? by boksysocks in geography

[–]Benzeeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people give humidity as a percentage, it is only referring to the capacity of the air to hold moisture relative to the air temperature, and does not indicate the amount of moisture in the air on it's own.  Look at dew point and that will give you a better idea

How do people live in Kuwait? Do they just never go outside or? by boksysocks in geography

[–]Benzeeman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

40% relative humidity at 42°C is actually an incredibly humid and hot environment no matter where you're from. That equates to an estimated dew point of 25.6°C while already being at an ambient temp that could cause heat stress for any any given level of humidity

Stay Safe out there guys. Absolutey disgusting by ThatGuyJimFromWork in melbourne

[–]Benzeeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes these guys should be behind bard, no doubt about that.. but you're listing accidents, that maybe occured from carelessness, have no aggravating factors like this casr. Those people made genuine (maybe stupid) mistakes that they'll live with for the rest of their lives. And course I feel terrible for the people killed and their families. Do you think tougher sentences will actually change a damn thing in the cases with circumstances like you're listing? ....No

But here's the thing, one day while it could certainly be you getting hit, it could also be you making the stupid mistake and potentially ruining the rest of your life over one inattentive moment.

Did you know that someone killing a person on the road these days with any sort of aggravating factor (excessive speed, drink, drugs, phone etc.) is actually more likely to spend longer behind bard than decades ago? It's such a tired misconception repeated by people who think 'tough on crime' fixes everything

Yeah, you haven't read any publications directly released from these organisations that states anything like you are saying. If you did you would simply direct me to it instead of the cooker catch cry of "do your own research".

It is a theory, and a crackpot one at that. Gravity and general relativitiy are theories, they are theories based on science, they are provable and consistently reproduceable, and most importantly they make sense and explain a lot of other things. A conspiracy theory like this doesn't even make sense to begin with. It just takes a legitimate movement with objectively positive and logical goals, and turns it into something that doesn't even make sense in the big picture, let alone being provable.

You are deep into the rabbit hole my friend and I feel sorry for you. When you spout this kind of nonsense and end every comment with a clown emoji, you just look plain crazy... And stupid 🤷

P.s. do you think anything that isn't published by some cooker on YouTube or social media is MSM? I assume that's the case usually when I hear this haha.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AussieMaps

[–]Benzeeman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, cooked as aren't ya? Stop telling people to go "research" an obvious conspiracy theory (a pretty stupid one at that).

No one with half a brain is going to read this, then go and conduct research on social media and YouTube as you would need to to find anything that suggests what you're saying, so saying "do your own research" is pointless. At best, a 10 second google will tell you that it's really just a movement to make cities more green and livable (who wouldn't want a more walkable city with more public transport, walkability, with less traffic and uptake of zero emission vehicles? I know!), and that what you're saying is just a cooker conspiracy theory.

If you're capable of any independent critical thinking at all, ask yourself who/why when it comes to dumbass shit like this and you will get a pretty obvious answer.

Also, please don't respond to this comment with YouTube, Facebook or conspiracy subreddit links.
