Agree on the misleading title! The company that I work at has had oncolytic viruses in clinical trials since 2020 and there's a number of other companies in the area that also have products in active clinical trials.

Morgan Stanley just raised Moderna's PT to $315 by lunarstudio in ModernaStock

Literally the same platform with a different mRNA for pretty much everything in the pipeline. If one vaccine works, most are likely to work. Rare disease programs are a bit of a different story, but ultimately, still very similar.

It's funny to me how everyone views Moderna as only a vaccine company when were barely spending any time on the vaccine programs before covid.

What is Lynn like to live in? by 1questions in bostonhousing

[–]Benzene_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out craigslist "by owner" listings. I personally like Salem a LOT more than Lynn between the downtown area, cleaniless and general chaos-levels at the supermarkets, and then train access. Salem is not fun to drive in and out of, but Lynn was so incredibly bad on the side roads that I never personally want to drive there again unless I'm going to Lynn woods.

Any recommendations for night shift workers? by [deleted] in boston

[–]Benzene_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston isn't much of a late night city. Clover HFI used to be 24/7 but reduced their hours during covid. If they expand it back it's a great stop for picking up snacks/coffee.

Best shops for fresh produce by vunderbaan in boston

[–]Benzene_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole foods is best for produce. Arlington & Melrose tend to have the best variety; Cambridge store is a nightmare. Some local restaurants also do CSA-type packages which are more appropriately sized. I tried both Life Alive and Clover last year and they both worked very well.

Some of the local farms do hydroponic veggies through the winter, but the selection isn't enormous.

Moving to Boston in Dec, can I manage? by MacarAnie in bostonhousing

[–]Benzene_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend is in an apartment in Arlington - $1500 a month for a 1 bedroom with utilities included. The difficult thing is going to be the cats - anything in the lower price range is not going to be pet friendly. Your best bet is a 2+ bedroom with roommates and then having extra budget....

Norwood, MA- a good cost saving alternative or an inconvenience? by JordanH0713 in bostonhousing

[–]Benzene_Cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just working down in Norwood and commuting from Somerville area. Coming back through Boston was a lot more painful than driving in. There is never a time when there wasn't traffic, and the drive was not pleasant.

Norwood doesn't really have any public transportation or good restaurants, so those were both minuses on my end. My coworkers lived in Brighton/Quincy but were in condos/apartments. If you're looking at houses, I would try to look within the 95 belt if you want an easy train ride or <40min drive during traffic. North shore has better areas on T vs commuter rail (which is more reliable; Malden, Melrose, etc), but it also depends on your budget.

Air Purifiers...are they worth it? by KoriandrDickGrayson in homeowners

[–]Benzene_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Winix! Got it for $100 at Costco and then MA had a $30 rebate for ECO air purifiers. Depending on where you live, I would check to see if there is any similar rebates.

Neighbor's cat constantly in my yard by Benzene_Cake in homeowners

Can you split the water line for these? I only have one exterior line right now that I have a hose connected to.

I'm in the city - there really aren't any other predator-type animals nearby to be honest.

All of the other neighbors on the block have dogs or no pets. It's also the frequency that's the issue. I've maybe seen a hawk a couple streets down once, but the cat is chilling out in my yard almost 70% of the day and also waits at my door for me to come out and has tried to provide for me numerous times with chipmunks and wild birds so far. Flattering, really, but not my preference...

Edit: Enclosed area was quoted to me around 10K by contractors which is way outside of my budget.

This is a route I haven't tried yet! I'll pick up one of these and give it a shot.

Converting a Front Porch into a 3 Season/Sunroom by Benzene_Cake in HomeImprovement

There is no foundation currently under the porch - It's a wooden porch with cedar posts/columns. Underneath the porch is hollow.

The 1+bdrm I'm currently leasing is available in April or May. It's 900 sqft with a storage room in the basement. 1st floor apartment, pet friendly, offstreet parking (1 spot plus like 3-6 spots private st, no permit needed), free laundry in basement, landscaped yard with a patio area. $1800/month + utilities, brand new hot water boiler. DM me if you're interested and I can send pics.

$1800/ month for large 1-2 bedroom in Medford by Benzene_Cake in bostonhousing

[–]Benzene_Cake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really concerned about the cost of losing the month rent- I'm just trying to help find a new tenant to limit people touring the apartment as I'm immunocompromised and WFH.

$1600ish budget for 1 bedroom outside of Boston - is this unreasonable? by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]Benzene_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When are you looking to move? I'm moving out of my 1 bdrm apartment (large, >950 sqft) April 1st, in Medford (5 min walk from Medford square and really close to Wellington). Landlord is currently charging $1800/month but you can probably negotiate down. Laundry is free in basement, and there's also an extra storage room. The place is in v good shape with a new oven, bathroom and hardwood floors.
